Made my first trip this year and did well. I ran green/yellow cowbells 1-2ft off bottom. I was out of Oswego and fished from there to the stacks. Best for me was 150-170fow. Kings were 40 ft down but all small 20-24"

What distance from dr ball to flasher or cowbells do you guys like? I've been running 10 for flasher and 25 for bells....just want to make sure I'm on the right track???

I'll be making the 4 hour trip as well. Last weekend early am we found walleye n browns just outside the harbor 12-20fow. Lakers we caught on bottom 155-165fow. Didn't mark or find any kings. It was my first time up there in my own rig but had a pretty good day.

I've had it out on the hudson river in 3 1/2ft. Very rough by safe and dry if you trim up. Forecast looks good . I'll make sure to post some pics and report

As much as I wanted to go to the Scotty 1106 I went with the Cannon Mag 10. The shops within  minutes of me only carry cannon parts. Also got them on sale for $445 shipped after mail in rebate. Thanks for the feedback!!

thanks for all the feedback guys. It sure sounds like on here and out west Scotty's has a great name. I will be heading to a few fishing shows so maybe I can find myself a deal picking two up cash. I learned a lot on my few years of charters in Oswego so looking forward to hitting them browns and lakers this spring. expecting new boat first week of march.

I have a 1983 Citation 20ft  2.5 Mercruiser I/O. Motor has new head gasket, fuel pump, carb, thermostat, starter and others... runs great. only issues I have is with the outdrive chewing up the impeller.so I am selling the boat with easy roller trailer for $1500 OBO if interested. I need to make space for brand new boat in march so I am willing to work with you.

I think the definitive argument I saw for choosing Scotty's was that you could sit a beer on them.

Ahhh that does make it more one sided. The boat does come with a cup holder right where my track would end. So I am set either way. With my luck on the BIG O no cup holder will do. Usually 3-5 footers if I am on the water lol

This spring will be my first time trolling on my own boat. For the past few years I have chartered out of Oswego. I will be on a 2016 Starweld 20. I know this is the Chevy vs Ford Discussion but is there a preference on Scotty vs cannon downriggers?  I am looking at the Scotty 1106 or the Cannon Mag 10. The tackle shops near me(southern NY) have cannon parts so that is a plus. I have heard the fast speed of the cannons can cause issues and the size of the scotty being an issue. Besides that these seem to be the top 2 brands. Any input would be helpful. Thanks!!
