  1. I’ve never tried the Mustad Thor, mainly because they don’t sell it locally where I live. Reading some reviews and product info, it appears to have a smoother profile than other braids and is quieter through the rod guides. For the price, it might be worth a try.

  2. West System G-Flex epoxy should work too, in combination with plastic runners.  People use the G Flex for plastic kayaks.  I've used it on my flat bottom boat with success.  Of course, I'm not dragging the boat across ice.  But it does get pushed through sand and rock quite a bit.

  3. Yeah The stock changes about every other day when I check. I usually just search for ‘Saltist’ when I open the website. I picked up a few 30s and a 50. Some days they show nothing and some they have the two reels or all three. The 40 hasn’t been on sale.

  4. As of tonight Cabela's has Saltist line counter 30s and 50s still on sale.  $119 for the 30's and $149 for the 50's.  If they don't show up, keep checking.  I've seen them come and go about 5 times now over the past several weeks....they keep placing them in stock.  Don't bother calling to check stock, customer service only has access to the same website screens you do.  I'm sure eventually they will sell out.

  5. I’ve heard that the rebel has a double plated bow, but I just looked at the Lund specs for both and it shows both boats as being single plated (single sheet of aluminum). The rebel might also be slightly larger in beam and length. Also check to see what size trailer (tires, etc) each comes with. The Rebel trailer might have larger tires. It really comes down to options, layout, and personal preference. Look at all specifications side-by-side. Nice boats!

  6. Welcome! I’m from the far east end of the UP and fish mainly lake trout on Huron, along with all other species on the borders of Superior, Huron, and Michigan. This is the best site on the net, period. Great knowledgeable people who share tips and tricks based on time-tested experience.

  7. If someone can rig up a transducer to a cell phone and write and app, all the millennials will take up ice fishing!!!!!  How did anyone ever catch a fish in the old days????? :lol:

LOL. Right on - my best ice fishing rod was a homemade stick with a piece of black tip up braid attached. That’s after taking time to drill a hole by hand with a dull cup shape hand auger or finding spots where ice shacks had been.

  8. I use a handheld depth sounder, but I don’t use a fishfinder very often, as I mainly fish shallower water. Ice fishing is just like hunting. It takes effort to get ready but the experience is worth it - takes your mind off of everyday life.

  9. I mounted an old set of Cannons (and now I have a newer set) to a 6” piece of track using bolts and mounted it as far forward so I can still reach the back end with the arms and also be comfortable working the downrigger. This is on a sea nymph 19.5, which is a similar design. I used Traxstech track and a 6” swivel base. The boat is also used for tubing so taking the riggers off is more convenient with track. The riggers are almost in line with the rear cross member of the transom area. IMG_7777.PNG

  10. Sounds great, Hard Knox. I have a Saltist LC 50 waiting for a similar set-up, I will probably add the 19 strand as well. I’m interested to know how you made your connections to the mono and braid. A haywire loop with shrink tube? Thanks for any info. I’ve been using leadcore for years and would like to add stainless and copper to the mix.
