  1. Start out with 1 or 2 of our jump dogs. When they get one going we try to catch them off. Hard sometimes. Then we get some young dogs in on the chase. 3-4 dogs usually. When they catch one we put more in.

  2. I have a good friend in Canada who runs field trials on coyotes. He also hunts them up there. He starts some of the dogs there and we start some here. These are registered Running Walker Foxhounds. It has taken us a few years to breed for grit in the dogs we have now. If we see some hounds that have the traits we are looking for we breed them.

  3. Soak tennis balls in kerosene light them up ant kick it in the hole. They will come out. That's how an ole timer taught me how to kill chucks.

When I was younger, there was an older gentleman that I used to run with. He said way back when they ran fox, and when the fox ran in a hole they would take burlap sacks and light them on fire and stick down the hole. There was usually another entrance/air hole a few yards away and they would wait there and club the fox when they came out.

  4. Ive seen several holed and dug out a few dogs, but never had em hole twice.  Gets a little hairy pulling the dogs out the hole when they lock jaws!!!!!  Old timers used to twist up barb wire to tangle in the yotes fur in order to pull out the yote if the yote didnt come out with the dogs....very sketchy at best!  We need snow around here....just crust to tear up feet here.

My Dad has told me stories of getting coon out like that.

  5. Those dogs were not coming out of that hole. They are tough and will not leave a live coyote. We had to dig so we could grab hold of them. The coyote ended up going further into one of the chambers when we got down to them.

  6. In 20 years I have had maybe 5 yotes go in a hole. Had 2 in one day. Old beaver bank den. 2 dogs and a yote about 15 feet down and 20 feet in. Den had many chambers. Had to get the shovels.

  7. You will NEVER hurt the coyote population.

To answer some questions, I either find a track and put my cold trail hound on until it is jumped or free cast them until it is jumped and put more dogs in. Guys get on watch and wait until they come thru and shoot it. Sometimes they miss and the coyotes run for awhile and tire and the dogs catch them. Some dont run at all.
