  1. I am starting to look for answers on why we cant seem to hook up on lake trout we fished a lot over the summer and only caught 3 or 4 short lakers a lot of folks say how easy they are to catch but not for us.I have been on a Charter to try to improve our chances and dont see much difference from what we do, we have tried everything that guys have told us and just cant seem to hook up on any. We have tried different depths speeds between 1.4 MPH up to 2 MPH we have been to Ontario and fished the trench out of Henderson Harbor 4 or 5 times fished Canada lake a bunch of times Piseco lake 6 or 8 times. We have used different spoons and have tried the peanuts had most luck with the peanuts. Any one have any more suggestions.
  2. Do any of the experts have an opinion on grounding the kicker motor I have been reading a book Pro-Troll by Dick Pool he has a chapter on stray voltage repeling fish from striking. He also talks about uncoated weights repeling strikes is there anything to this? I have an old 1958 5.5 kicker with manual start that we use for trolling on an aluminum boat which is mounted on a panther aux. mount the plate where the motor mounts is plastic. Is this all hype or anything to it?
  3. We caught 2 lakers today thanks Guys for the advise they were short but we were able at least land and release 2 of them. We used cowbells and spin n glo and added 3 red beads
  4. Caught lake trout today they were to short to be legal so we released them at least we are making some progress.
  5. Thanks I hope I can learn how to catch a few of these I ordered some cowbells this morning.
  6. I am new to lake trout fishing and have fished a few times last year and this year and have yet to catch any lakers we chart fish and run our riggers to the depth they are at have tried different colored spoons speed around 2.5 according to GPS and fish finder speed sensor. Have tried different depths not sure what we are doing wrong but seems like we should have had at least a rod pop up from a strike. We have fished Piseco lake a few times Canada lake a few times Ontario 1 time. Do we need a light leader for fishing lakers, we are just using the 25 pound test tied to a swivel and spoon I just bought 18 pound line and respooled the poles and have yet to go out. We are running about 20 foot behind the ball. I really want to learn how to catch some of these lake trout I dont want to haul 2 1/2 hours to Ontario and not catch anything I went on a Charter with Moby Dick 2 years ago and had a blast if we go to Ontario we will more than likely fish the trench.
