  1. The Nature Conservancy needs your help Looking for a great way to spend time by the water this summer? Do you know any students who are looking for community service hours? Would you like to help the environment? If you or someone you know is interested in the following volunteer opportunity, please email me at [email protected] for scheduling and further information. Feel free to bring a friend along. We are a non-profit organization looking for volunteers to assist our seasonal staff on four separately public boat launches in Oswego and Jefferson counties. You do not need invasive species education, knowledge or experience to volunteer. AIS (Aquatic Invasive Species) Education and Outreach Program, volunteers will assist our boat launch stewards in the dissemination of educational materials, inspection of watercrafts, sample collection and may be asked to take a few photos that can be done with the use of a smart phone. Our boat launch stewards will be stationed at the following public boat launches: Oswego (Wright’s Landing), Henderson Harbor, Sackets Harbor and Cape Vincent. You will meet the launch steward at their designated public boat launch and can volunteer as many times as you like or just once from June through Labor Day Weekend. Our boat launch stewards work Wednesdays-Sundays from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. but you may volunteer for the length of time that you are comfortable with. If you feel you’d like to volunteer more than once, you may go to the same launch or try all four!
  2. Invasive Species Subject: Cultural Impacts Survey Importance: High In an effort to better understand the impacts that invasive species may have on people’s well-being and livelihoods, we are launching a Cultural Impacts Survey. Much is known about the environmental, ecological and economic impact caused by invasive species. Less understood is the impact that invasive species have on people, our happiness, our livelihoods and our way of life. The Cultural Impact Survey is designed to evaluate and articulate the impact of invasive species on people’s way of life within the Eastern Lake Ontario, St. Lawrence and inland areas of the SLELO PRISM Region. Below is a link to the survey. We are asking you to take the survey and to share the survey link with anyone you feel is knowledgeable about invasive species or whom may be impacted by invasive species. As you will see on the first page of the survey we are targeting over twelve user groups. Please copy the link, save it for future sharing, prior to taking the survey yourself as you will only be allowed to take the survey one time after you open the link. On behalf of the SLELO (St. Lawrence Eastern Lake Ontario) Partnership, we thank you in advance for your participation!
