  1. There is 150 seats in the Ball Room so hopefully there will be seats left for anyone without a ticket on Sunday.
  2. Whether you’re an avid ice fisherman or an Lake Erie perch angler looking for alternative baits when live Emerald Shiners are scarce, this is a “must see” clinic from one of the best fishing minds in the business. Scott Brauer of Gasport, NY is a professional angler and the owner of Maki Plastics, an innovative ice fishing bait company. He is an Ice Team Pro Staffer for Clam Outdoors. Scott spends much of his time travelling the ice belt promoting the great sport of ice fishing. It’s not uncommon to see Scott at just about any ice fishing venue, especially here in Western New York where he conduction on-ice clinics and in-store promotions involving hard water angling. Scott will be presenting the following clinic: Finessing Techniques with Plastics Clinic Saturday, January 20th – 1:30 –3:30 | $20 Fee | Walleye Trolling Room *Tickets can be purchased online thru this site or in person at the Show ticket Booth at the entrance. Plastics are Fantastic, whether thru the ice or in open water including Lake Erie Perch. "Matching the Hatch" is a phrase often kicked around in the fishing world, the expression comes from the fisherman's attempt to imitate natural insects with artificial imitations in order to fool fish. Fish often ignore all other bait offerings and get lock jaw during major hatches- getting familiar with the bugs, insects, larvae and nymphs that are present in a lake is quite simply a process that is not hard to master, and is a necessary skill for the serious angler. During this class we will examine lake biology, insect hatch timeline, baits and delivery tools and matching the right rod and reel to increase your catch all year long. Scott Brauer is the brain child behind Makiplastic Bait, an aquatic insect nerd and national award winning educator. He will lead participants through questions from the class and add in lessons from fish including underwater video of how fish react to what we are doing above. There will be giveaways from all of his sponsors throughout this in-depth look at how to fish plastics and how to fool even lockjaw fish!

SALMON TOURNAMENT & DERBY WINNING TACTICS CLINIC Sunday, January 21st – 10am – 11:30 am | Ball Room B Free Tickets to the first 100 who sign up at the Anglers Avenue booth #153 Captain Mark McClutchey owns and operates Diabolical Sportfishing, a Great Lakes fishing charter service based in Northern Michigan. Captain Mark, along with Diabolical Teammate Captain Dan Lasky, represented the USA at Trollmaster Bornholm 2017, one of the world’s largest international salmon tournaments held each year in the Baltic Sea. 5. Learn from Dan Keating, one of the top Captains on the Great Lakes, on how to successfully fish for trophy deep Kings at the Greater Niagara Fishing & Outdoor Expo. FISHING DEEP FOR TOURNAMENT WINNING KINGS CLINIC Sunday, January 21st – 12pm – 1:30pm | Walleye Trolling Room Free Tickets to the first 100 who sign up at the Magnum Metalz booth #49 Most big water anglers are intimidated by the thought of heading offshore and targeting deep water for trophy kings. But Kings often make horizontal movements out to deep water. Dan Keating has been chartering since 1983 and has pioneered many of the techniques used to catch deep cruising fish. Learn to recognize what seasonal conditions and weather patterns drive kings deep and how to locate deep, open water fish. Success begins by using the right tackle and this seminar we will examine cutting edge high-speed downriggers and the newest weights required to effectively troll deep. While downriggers are the tool of choice for probing the depths, we will look at how to add copper and Torpedoes off side planers. Dan will also teach you practical methods to deploy gear and minimize tangles. Learn which lures, bait and attractors will draw maximum attention and trigger strikes in the dark depths of the water column. Captain Keating will discuss the impact of currents on fish locations and how wave action and subsurface currents impact a deep spread and lure speeds. Dan will also address how to weave multi-species rigs for steelhead and coho into the upper layers of the water column without interfering with your deep king spread. Learning how to locate and target deep kings will turn many slow days into a huge success and you may just win a pile of cash next summer in one of Lake O’s tournaments! This Clinic is presented by Magnum Metalz. Those signing up for the clinic on Friday or Saturday at the Show will be given a complimentary re-admission pass to enter the Show on Sunday for the clinic.

  10. Come to the Show and Fish while you are in Town The Greater Niagara Fishing and Outdoor Expo is pleased to announce a unique offering for our show this year Lower Niagara River Trout fishing trips offered the mornings before, during and after the expo. Six exciting days to 'scratch your fishing itch' and take your first boat trip in 2017 while with the GNFOE! These trips are offered at “show special” pricing, including a day pass to the Expo. It gives you another reason to make the Greater Niagara Fishing & Outdoor Expo the destination to attend Jan. 20-22, 2017!! Winter in Niagara USA: There’s a good chance that there will be some part of Niagara Falls frozen, there will be some snow on the ground … and there will be trout in the Niagara River below Niagara Falls. The lower Niagara River offers a world-class winter boat fishery in a 10-plus mile stretch of fish-rich water. It should be on everyone’s bucket list. If you enjoy catching trout, the winter is one of the best times to be on the water drifting for steelhead, domestic rainbows, lake trout and brown trout. No trolling here: It’s rod in hand as you bounce bottom for these trophy trout. Catch and release is highly recommended. Yes, we said “on” the water. Niagara USA has a fleet of charter captains that work the river waters throughout the winter, no matter how cold it gets out there. These oxygen-rich waters will not freeze up and anglers target trout from Devil’s Hole to the Niagara Bar. Make sure you dress for the experience. It does get mighty cold at times, but hopefully the fishing will be hot enough to keep you warm! Guides will be able to take you out for a morning of fishing from Lewiston to let you sample this dynamic fishery. Make sure you have your NY State Fishing License, too. Sign-up is simple as you can sign up as an individual and there is no need to secure two other people in order to book a trip. Cost is $100 per person for the trip. For those guys who really want to learn how to fish the Lower Niagara, we have we have a unique offerings that combines both the classroom learning with the on water experience. It consists of 2 hours of classroom detailed instruction from Captain Frank Campbell and other Guides running the trips and then you go out on your trip and actually put what you learned in the classroom to use. There is no additional charge for this class. As an incentive to register early, Capt. Frank Campbell of Niagara Region Charters has put together the special classroom session for Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m.which includes a packet of goodies from Pautzke, Buck Knives and Yakima, valued at $25. While attending the Saturday afternoon session is not required, space is limited to the first 20 anglers who sign up, starting with the order you register for the lower river fishing adventure. First come, first served!
  11. Sonar / GPS Opportunities at the Fishing Show The Greater Niagara Fishing Show on January 20 – 22 will provide attendees with a great opportunity to help make a purchase decision on new Sonar / GPS Technology or understand how to use them to help catch more fish in 2017. Lowrance, Raymarine, Humminbird and Navionics will all have booths staffed by experts showing their product lines along with providing a number of fishing oriented seminars on how to get the most out of these tools. There will also be the opportunity to take advantage of special show pricing on some of these products. For those looking for a “Deep Dive” into Sonar/GPS Captain Lance Valentine of Teachinfishin.com will offer his very popular Ultimate Electronics Clinic again. This in depth clinic is designed to help Anglers catch more fish by fully utilizing the features / functions available on their Sonar and GPS units. As the sophistication of these units continue to increase and the prices continue to drop, most serious Anglers have both Sonar and GPS units on their boat. However, Angler education on how to most effectively use them has basically occurred thru word of mouth and trial an error. This two-hour class offered, for the first time in Western New York, is targeted to fill this education void and teach Anglers how to make their units the most valuable tool on their fishing boat. Topics covered include the setup to maximize the useful “Fishing” information these units provide along with Sonar Interpretation and Advanced GPS Usage / Waypoint Management. Even though Captain Lance is an expert in Lowrance HDS units and will provide many specific tips and techniques for them, the clinic is taught so that it is relevant for all Anglers no matter what brand units they own or type of fish they fish for. The Clinic will be offered on Sunday, January 22nd from 10:30am – 12:30pm, for a price of $30 which includes admission to the show on Sunday. Tickets can be purchased at www.niagarafishingexpo.com or at the door on Sunday, January 22nd if seats are still available. Lance will also provide free software updates on HDS Lowrance units. If you own a HDS Lowrance Unit, bring it to the show and receive a free update from Valentine at his booth # 66.

  20. Greater Niagara Fishing Show - Seminar Schedule This “pure” fishing show is designed to be an “event” where attendees can spend a long weekend enjoying and learning about your favorite pastime versus the normal one or two hour “walk through” shows that many are used to attending. Now in our 4th year, the show continues to grow toward becoming one of the best “fishing” shows in all of the Great Lakes. With over 200 fishing exhibitor booths and over 3,000 hours of “fishing” education provided to attendees at our January 2016 show, we are the largest freshwater “fishing” show in New York State and among the largest fishing shows anywhere in the Great Lakes. The Show Facility – the Conference and Event Center Niagara Falls – provides a unique blend of a spacious Exhibitor Event Center, multiple additional side rooms and a multitude of conference/seminar rooms all utilizing “State of the Art” technology. The core of the show is built around providing sportfishing education to all attendees. The core belief of our show is that education is the most important thing we can do to continue to grow the sport of fishing. We believe that by providing a significant amount of education, we will recruit new anglers including the next generation to the sport as well as the knowledge for existing anglers to increase their enjoyment for the time they spend on the water by being more successful. We take great pride in offering a multi-species fishing show with many well-known fishing manufacturers, local and regional fishing retailers, local fishing guides and outfitters, family-friendly fishing trips, discounted tackle, the best local fishing boat dealers, kayak fishing watercraft, marine electronics, local fishing clubs and much more. The show highlights the rich waters of Western New York which offers up to anglers one of the most productive and diversified year round freshwater fisheries on the planet! The full Seminar Schedule has just been released featuring over 120 Fishing Seminars by over 70 different Instructors over 2.5 days! Check out the schedule at www.niagarafishingexpo.com, select "Education & Seminars" and chose the species/topic to view you are most interested in. Lots of good topics to choose from taught by many expert Fishermen that you will recognize.
  21. Greater Niagara Ice Jam Show - Seminars The formal Ice Fishing Seminar schedule is now available at http://niagarafishingexpo.com/files/2016/12/Ice-Fish-Seminar-Schedule.pdf . These seminars are in addition to the ones for Beginners and Youth. Informal 1 on 1 instruction is also available throughout the 3 days of the show from the Ice Team Pros in attendance including the use of the Ice Fishing simulator tanks. All of this is included in the admission to the show. In addition to Ice Fishing, there are over 100 other "Fishing" seminars offered during the show on Walleye, Perch, Salmon, Bass, Marine Electronics, etc which can viewed at www.niagarafishingexpo .com and then select the "Seminars" tab.
  22. The Instructors are hard at work preparing for the School from the questions/topics submitted so far. Registrations are rolling in at a faster pace than last year when it sold out in early January. Most of you guys on LOU are very familiar with the knowledge that Bob and Jerry bring from Bob's "At the Oak or the Bar" reports to Jerry's in depth posts on stocking, pens and fishing reports throughout the year. Russell is just as knowledgeable and he brings the Lake Michigan knowledge to the School. It promises to be another epic school and "can't miss" 3 day event making for a great "Kick off" to the 2017 season. To be fair to our Instructors, we are cutting off the questions for registrants to submit to be covered in the school at the end of this year. So, if you plan on attending, haven't signed up yet and want to make sure your key questions/topics are covered, please do so by year end. It will also make sure you get a seat before we are sold out. On Saturday, January 21, 2017 the Lake Ontario Trout & Salmon Association (LOTSA) is proud to (once again) host its well-known in-depth Salmon School. This highly successful school, in its 10th year, boasts six hours of detailed instruction taught by three expert captains and this year they are: Capt. Bob Songin (Reel Excitement Charters out of the ports of Oak Orchard & Wilson, NY); Capt. Russell Gahagan (Anglers Avenue out of Sheboygan, MI); and Capt. Jerry Felluca (Rebel Charters out of Sandy Creek, NY). These three captains offer a huge amount of on-the-water experience trolling for trout and salmon along with a proven tournament track record of high placement in the most prestigious tournaments over many years. They are a much diversified set of instructors and will provide a class full of insights and details that no one single instructor would be able to provide. They are all skilled communicators and are very well known for sharing their fishing knowledge and daily fishing trips with anglers to help them to be more successful fishing the lake. Each brings their own unique set of trolling skills, techniques and knowledge to the class. Given the depth of the knowledge base of these instructors and their proven ability to educate anglers, we expect this school to be another high quality, comprehensive, in-depth, information-packed event that our attendees have come to expect from this annual day-long instruction.
  23. After missing for many years, Ice Anglers in NYS and across the North East including Southern Ontario will be able to enjoy a major Ice Fishing show January 20 - 22, 2017. No need to drive the 500+ miles to attend a major Ice Fishing Show, Clam & Thorne Bros are bringing the show to us. Check out the NE Region Ice Jam at the Greater Niagara Fishing & Outdoor Expo this January (www.NiagaraFishingExpo .com)
