    I’ll second that! Switched to size 5 Chinooks last year after several years of DW Deeper Divers (which work great too) and find them more accurate. With the weight on the #4 slot it gives a close 3:1 ratio with wire which, for mathematically challenged me, makes life smooth sailing! 😊

    This! More often than not, I end up with a $hit show all tangled up. I stack with a Scotty cable clip and run it 10’ further than my lower rod and 15’ above and rarely encounter a problem. As others have already advised, spoons only! 

    Slide diver question

    My mini slide diver rigs for browns are as follows:

    -30# Braid to fill the spool

    -12# Fluoro running line x 60’

    -10# Fluoro Leader x 7’

     

    The water is usually gin clear where I’m fishing for spring browns hence the use of the 60’ of 12# Fluoro running line before the bead and swivel. It may be coincidence but I seem to do better with the section of Fluoro running line vs braid to the swivel! I use black color mini sliders and I doctor them up with UV chartreuse tape! 
    Works well! 😊

     

    Boat control with trolling bags

    Not trying to spend your hard earned $ but, since you have a kicker, you might want to consider one of the popular electronic throttle controllers. I too struggled with troll bags (21’ boat) and use them primarily when the water is very rough as it helps settle the boat in the waves. I set up a Trollmaster brand throttle controller on my kicker and it solved my trolling speed issues. I can fine tune my Troll speed all the way down to .8 mph. You don’t need to have kicker motor controls up front, just the small electronic module that is part of the Trollmaster, or I-Troll, etc. of your choice. It also makes life considerably easier if you have an EZ Steer or similar type connector rod between the main and the kicker so you can steer the boat in the usual fashion.

    Does anyone use these Riggers or have you in the past and if so, are they of decent enough quality to handle up to 15lb weights for use on salmon? I’m considering a Manual Rigger as a 3rd for my boat, mainly for spring browns and kings in shallower water but space is limited and plan to use them with a gimbal style flush mount rod holder so I can easily remove them when not needed.

    fish hawk x4 ?

    Green fish, here’s how I use my portable FF transducers on my rowboats.

    I IMG_4080.JPGhave set up my X4D probe like this when I first bought it and in mid season like you and it worked fine. Just a wood worker clamp, a piece of 1/4” x 2” aluminum bar stock and a piece of lex. an Material (Trex works too) as a backer to mount the transducer. I just clamped it onto my transom of my boat and temporarily snaked the cable under the boat gunnel to the display. Worked great for the time being!

    Line for Slide Diver

    30# 7 Strand Wire, 2’ section of 65# PowerPro, 50’ of 30# Fluorocarbon, bead, swivel. Leader material is Fluorocarbon, weight depends on target fish. With the diver on the #2 setting and a large #3 ring, you’ll get 3:1 dive ratio. I tested this with a Fish Hawk TD and it is very accurate. Join the piece of 65# braid to the wire and 30# Fluorocarbon with an Alberto Knot!

    Kicker Motor Speed Control

    So between the trollmaster, itroll, and controlking, 
     
    Do these only allow you to set spot on the throttle and it holds it there? or will it maintain a speed? 
    example, going with current at a #4 setting, to maintain wanted trolling speed. If you turn against current would you need to amp up to a #6or#7 to get the desired speed or does it have a gps built in to get the desired speed. Hope that wasnt too wordy


    It is my understanding that you have to periodically make throttle adjustments in situations like a current or direction of troll change. I’m gathering that these units, at least in the case of the Trollmaster or Control King, they allow minute/fine throttle adjustments that you would not be able to achieve with just the tiller or helm throttle control.
    I’ve decided to go with the TM as I don’t need the additional programming features offered by the itroll. I just need precise throttle control and for that I don’t need to spend 1.5 x more on an itroll.

    20 Colors LC Set Up

    While we’re on the subject of copper, I tried putting 500’ of 45# copper on a Seagate 60. I used 50# PP backing and spooled on the equivalent of 75 passes of the level wind guide. By time I was done, the reel was well beyond capacity, so much so that the last 30-40’ of copper was very difficult to reel in. Any suggestions out there for a different reel better suited for a 500 and even a 550 and 600 copper?

    20 Colors LC Set Up

    Thanks for the feedback fellas! Here’s the deal, I’ve got copper pairs from 100’s up to 400’s then singles in 350, 450 and 500. Plus, LC pairs from 1-10 colors. I acquired 2 Saltist 50 LW and a Tekota 700 LW and am trying to figure out what to do with them! I also have 4 salmon Rigger Rods set up with Saltist 40’s so im set there as well! Also have 2 pair of wire diver rods so that base is covered!

    Was an impulse buy on those 50’s and the 700, good deal I couldn’t pass up! [emoji16]
