  1. This report courtesy of the Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning. This report was written on April 11, 2019. Oswego River/Lake Ontario report: According to Oz Angling Tackle: Trout fishing is the name of the game on the Oswego River right now. Steelhead and brown trout are being caught along the entire river. Anglers venturing up near the dam are having success using jigs, egg sacs, and beads while anglers fishing the lower river are catching mostly brown trout on jigs, swimbaits, and spoons. Some anglers are starting to use night crawlers as well, which can be a big difference maker on those days when it’s a relatively slow trout bite. At the current flow, these trout can comfortably hold throughout the entire river. The lower east side behind the hotels and the entire west side of the river are all worth fishing. The water flow is currently 7,820cfs. According to Capt. Andy Grisenthwaite of Broad Horizon Charters: The 2019 lake season is underway! Browns are plentiful out of Oswego. We have also gotten some surprise Atlantics. Smithwicks and Yozuri’s on one side and spoons on the other have kept us pretty busy. Notice: The bridge to Leto Island is closed, and there are mandatory personal flotation device (PFD) zones on the river. This afternoon it is flowing at 9,590 cfs. On Saturday, areas of the river behind the hotels were iced over. With the warmer temperatures, that is not the case now. 17. This report courtesy of the Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning. This report was written on January 24, 2019. Oswego River report: The river flow dropped significantly over the weekend and has been running between 7,000 and 11,000 cfs since then. It is flowing at 10,100 cfs as of this morning. Look behind the hotels and along the westside river walk for browns, steelhead, rainbows and walleye. According to Oz Angling: As a float fisherman, one of the key aspects of your rig that you can adjust is the length between your float and offering. After having no takes while suspending my jig about 6 inches off the bottom, I slid my float 6 inches up my line so my jig was barely ticking along bottom throughout the drift. Within two drifts I had a nice male brown slurp the jig. One minor adjustment of your rig can make a world of difference in the realm of tributary trout fishing. Oswego River report: According to Oz Angling Bait & Tackle: The Oswego River has been on and off over the past couple of weeks. Jigs and swimbaits have been working well. The water flow is running at 15,300cfs this morning. 23. This report courtesy of the Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning. This report was written on December 26, 2018. Oswego River report: Although the water level was down under 13,000 cfs the end of last week, it increased on Saturday to just over 17,000 cfs. This afternoon it is flowing at 16,000 cfs. According to Oz Angling Bait & Tackle: Last week was a hit or miss week on the Oswego River. Early in the week the bite was pretty solid as anglers continued to find success catching browns, rainbows and a few walleyes on the lower east side behind the hotels using jigs or bottom bouncing egg sacs. The lower west side was also active casting lures. With the warmer temperatures the end of the week, things were lining up for a productive bite, however, anglers were reporting it was tough and many were working hard for a fish or two. Temperature increases this time of year that are significant and occur abruptly can sometimes leave the fish unsettled or unwilling to feed. Warmer temperatures are moving back in for Friday and Saturday and dropping into the 20s on Sunday. Our staff extends our best wishes for a safe and Happy Holiday! Oswego River report: According to Oz Angling Bait & Tackle: We’ve been putting our hand tied marabou jigs to work these last couple weeks and having excellent results. These hungry browns don’t seem to have much preference for size or color, as we’re catching many on a variety of jigs. The 1/16 ounce green head, white body, white tail and 1/8 ounce all black have done the trick. Some browns have not yet spawned. The river flow is currently 12,400cfs with some heavy rain predicted for tomorrow.
