Cayuga Lake Anglers are getting out on the north end, but ice thickness varies greatly in that area so use extreme caution if heading out. Oswego River report: With little significant precipitation in the last few days, the river level continues to drop slowly running at 17,000cfs as of this afternoon. This is still a high level for fishing along much of the river. Behind the hotels is a suggested area for steelhead, browns and walleye. Many Lake Ontario tributaries are also producing some nice trout. Notice: The bridge to Leto Island is closed, and there are mandatory personal flotation device (PFD) zones on the river. A couple of events taking place this weekend to celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day are the Salmon River Fish Hatchery Open House and the Honeywell Sportsmen's Days at Carpenters Brook Fish Hatchery, an Onondaga County hatchery. A few sections of area streams, ponds and lakes will have been stocked with trout by Friday, May 11th. These Cayuga County streams and lakes are: Owasco Outlet (May 4), North Brook (April 11) and Fall Creek (May 3 and April 4). Lake Ontario Brown trout fishing has been good on the big lake and they are being taken by trolling with stick baits or small spoons in shallow water. Fishing off colored water, if you can find it, has been good. Some spring Kings are also being taken and lake trout are being found in 120 feet of water.
