  1. Well this is a good thread but no help with my fiberglass Bass Master 16 foot 135 horse that only takes on water when up on plane. Launch and look below battery shelf and it stays dry. Run it and bilge pump will move a couple gallons out.
I need someone to hang their head down in here while I push it up to 40 or 50! Maybe the hose in the bilge area on a dry garage floor is a better idea.

  2. I used to launch from Jake’s during the winter years ago with my 14 foot aluminum V. Steep narrow no parking is my description. West side south of the bluff north of yacht club. I see there is quite the rebuilding going on the house there. Life must be good. He pumps gas at end of dock too.
Water must be warming up quick with this weather. Bass will be out to feast!

  3. Finger lakes trollers assoc did Keuka last Saturday. 17 boats weighed 3 lake trout each. Assume minimum two people per boat, could have legally taken 102 trout.
It bothers me that competition fish are not returned healthy like in bass tournaments. I suppose it just doesn’t work that way but still.
Oh, and the winner also had a landlock for the win.

  4. We saw no dead fish at all. We trolled up past the Switz then jigged the point and moved back down west side.
I got a few more years before retired so I get out when I can. Weekday fishing does suit me I have found!
I’m 17 miles from the ramp at Hammond but three miles from Cowenesque. Keuka has always been a cold weather lake for me until last summer bass season.

  5. Facebook reminded me of a picture I posted of 15 ten to twelve inch crappies on my sidewalk on May 18......2015! Probably my last good crappie bite!
That would have been from Hammond lake. Never caught a crappie in Keuka but never fished it in springtime until this year. Was hoping there were some under that boat house.
It’s a gorgeous morning, boat is prepped, think I’ll go hit that same spot in 2018. Don’t need a gps spot lock to show me that submerged brush pile!

  6. Two Saturdays ago in a boathouse about a mile south of the Switz, teaming with small fish. We scaled down from one ounce jigs to eighth ounce to catch a fish fry.
Hard to tell what a fish is from above it. We hooked half dozen rock bass. A couple bluegills. Looked like an aquarium in there.
I suspect the shadow of any dock would be similar.

  7. Update as of May 6, no progress has been made on the launch site. Motel sticking to his May 20 quit date. He says the state is ready to roll but the town of Urbana simply won’t do anything to cooperate.
Town officials do not want any more of ‘us’ on ‘their’ lake and they are going to block any launching they can. The selling of $15k of permits tells me they do not intend to change a thing.
Recommendation is for everyone to phone the Urbana town clerk office and encourage some cooperation. Post their number here if you have it.

  8. To answer my own question, while actually reading the directions, it says in there to clean the transducer with a plastic safe cleanser to remove algae. I don’t think that was algae making it dull, but I’ll practice on the removed one then do the one on the transom.

  9. $150 is too steep for me. I figured last year that NYS doing anything by spring would be lightning speed for them.
Urbana trying to make $15k off launch permits is a bit much to ask.

  10. Well these stories don’t match up well. Motel guy is giving up hundreds per month in summer.
He charges $10 to launch. That’s 15 launches..... once a month, three per month when bass are biting....
I don’t think so. There is a freebe by the ..!?,’@&$. that I’ll use when I can.

  11. Last summer the motel launch in Hammondsport said he was going to stop launching and the state was going to have a south shore launch ramp by spring. Well, it’s spring. I haven’t been in Hammondsport this year and am looking for any fresh info.

The story I heard was that NYS was going to cut a deal to share the town launch site right next there.

  12. One of the best guide's I have ever found on how to get started lake trout Jigging on Cayuga is here - http://cayugafisher.net/pages/resdex.php

It has almost everything you need to know from what gear to use to how to do it. Rods, Reels, Line Recommendations ect...

You can get Jig heads here http://billysmtolures.com/ as the guy who runs the first site isn't producing them at the moment.

Another good resource for info regarding where to Jig (generally) and what depth to look for the fish at is here on John's website - http://fingerlakesanglingzone.com/reports.asp

I also highly suggest searching through older threads about Jigging. Some very valuable info in them including what to look for on your fishfinder.

  13. Thanks for the info. I went ahead with the Scotty Power Locks like my first two. With extensions everything will be interchangeable. The two I have have given me no reason to change.
