  5. Thanks, I'll do tip. Will also watch rigger blow-back. I also plan to pay close attention to speed when we do connect with a king and also heading.
  6. A buddy and I are planning to fish Saturday evening, Sunday and Monday morning. Would love to work with others for mutual success. (I'm waiting on a replacement part for my Depth Raider, so I'll be handicapped from the get-go.) Also, what radio channels do most guys use? Thanks! DammitDave 715 977-2425
  7. I used my needle nose pliers even on mono and it worked pretty well for me. I took a big bunch of fleas and simply squeezed down on the edge of the gob. Eventually, I even pressed down on the gob right on the mono being careful to not squeeze too hard. I'm planning to take a couple of 4" 2x4 chucks and using those to try to squeeze off the big globs.
  8. It appears they are in the process of rebuilding it...
  9. Holy Cow! What a fishery!! Two of us fished Thursday evening, Friday A.M. and P.M. and Saturday A.M. We couldn't keep track of how many fish we caught the two mornings. (We guessed 16-20 while having another bunch of "swings and misses" as well as other fish that came unbuttoned. Had lots of help from Laurie B which helped immensely. Fished all magnum spoons. Several of the fish we cleaned had large (8+") alewives in their stomachs - thus the magnum spoons. Our best spoon, by far, was the Moonshine super glow - Natural Born Killer with the RV tape. (I don't know the actual name of the spoon.) The gal in the ASB (All in the Same Boat) tackle store in Newfane suggested it when I asked if she had any recommendations. I bought one and went back the following afternoon and bought 2 more. I was impressed with the store, so I grabbed a business card. Their number is 716 638-4258. This morning, we started in 80 FOW straight out of the harbor. Lots of bait and fish on the sonar. Started fishing at 5:15. I dropped the NBK down to 50' on the rigger and while I was tightening the line on my reel, it took off. It was a 12# king. It was game on! Laurie B convinced me to troll faster than I normally do. That made a big difference. I have a Depth Raider probe, and I tried to keep it around 2.3 - 2.4 mph. Depending on the current, my GPS speed was around 3.2-3.3 mph +/-. (For whatever reason, they manufactured the probe to run .4-.5 mph less than speed over water.) Riggers caught the majority of the fish, although dipsys were good at times. We also caught several on copper and lead core. We fished out to only 137 FOW this morning and then back in to 80 FOW. Water was warm, at the ball, but the bait was there and so were the salmon. I've fished salmon in Lake Michigan for 24 years, this morning's bite was the best 2 hours of fishing I've ever experienced! We had planned to fish till 9:00 before heading back to Ohio, but at 7:00 we both decided, to catch one more fish each before heading in. We actually had caught all the fish we wanted to catch! BTW - The fish cleaning station has been torn down. So most guys filleted fish on the water. Good luck! BTW -
  10. Arrived this afternoon and met Dave (AKA Laurie B) He told us everything we needed to know to catch our fish. Gave us his program and spot and even gave us one of their hottest spoons! Oh, and also tied new flora carbon leaders on our rigger rods! What a great guy AND crew! Thanks much! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. Thanks for all your reports. Hope to put them to good use. Will be there tomorrow afternoon for a couple days. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  12. Fishnut - thanks for your post and thanks for the information. I fish mainly from Avon Point to Huron (Vermilion and Lorain included), but fish the western basin (islands) in the late fall, winter and early spring, when weather/ice permits.
  13. I'm retired and moved to the west side of Cleveland 4 years ago from Wisconsin. Been to Olcott twice in last 2 years and looking to come over again soon. I fish Erie multiple times a week for walleye, and would love to trade some walleye trips and/or intel for salmon trips/intel. I've fished Lake Michigan for over 20 years so I'm not a newbee to salmon fishing. I would appreciate hearing where there are some good places to launch from that would be relatively close to the Niagara Bar. (I have a 1800 Lund Tyee) Thanks in advance for any help that members might provide. Thanks! David Bradley
