  1. Gambler.... I had a good laugh today. I was talking to my friends at the hatchery ( on the phone) while up fishing the river. As you all should know they read this site all the time to see what’s going on in the circus.

They told me the guys at the hatchery started a go fund me page to help me recover from my failed charter business. I guess they only got about a buck fifty so far. So please buy my book folks.

    Thanks.

  2. I cleaned over 80 and didn't have the worm problem in any of them. I always associated that with warmer water. River surface temp is now at 67.

When I do, I discard them.
Last summer in Algonquin lake we caught 70+ perch and pickrel, almost every perch was loaded with black, red and white worms

  3. Do you eat the perch that are full of worms?

    Hey Rider,

Congrats on the success and thanks for the mention, but I've got to pass this one up the ladder. Had it not been for Kevin's help a few years ago I'd probably be learning how to cook gobys! It turned out we're neighbors, and we've had some great adventures since we put things together.

Here's what I did NOT do. I didn't ask for a spot, or a particular bait. What I did was put the time in, like you, alone, till I got it down and finally started to connect. Took half a summer and 30 nights out. Only then did I contact Kevin.

I've limited my posts recently because I got followed, and now I can't fish my most productive spots because they're crowded and overfished. Same deal for a couple other friends whos names no longer appear in these posts.

Fortunately, its a big river, with lots of good structure. And now, most of my fishing is in the dark, while most humans are asleep.

It's been good having conversations with you. By the way, I've turned my attention to mr walleye's cousin, the yellow perch!!!!!

  4. I remember when I was a kid about 16, I had a chrysler 13ft sailboat. Me and 5 of my friends thought it would be fun to go out sailing on this thing, I ended up getting 5 lifejacket tickets and because the capacity plaque was missing he let the fact that we were overloaded slide. In hindsight it was incredibly dumb, and a valuable lesson was learned.

From my understanding its just the king/ coho run thats over at that time, people are fishing steelhead almost all winter long.

  6. Well my plan is boat in the water around 5ish tomorrow, I'll keep everyone posted on how that goes.

Some of my best days have been when the weather is snotty... I think I prefer not getting beat up all day though.

I am heading out to Henderson Harbor this weekend and spending the following week out there. I've heard the salmon have been hard to ignite so far.. has anyone been doing anything with browns or steelhead around the trench/mountain/finger?

  7. I fish smaller lakes over near the great sacandaga area and spoons like the speedy shiner, and jensen krocodile slay lake trout. I usually run them 10-20 ft off the bottom but I can see the rigger balls on my sonar, can you see the dipsys on the sonar? I can swear I saw a chart somewhere for how much line you need go let out to achive max depths on dipsys.

  8. What size dipsys are you using? I know the maximum depth on those varies depending on the size. I only got into downrigging last summer and haven't tried dipseys yet. I would say look at your sonar and see where the fish are, keep your gear just above where you are marking fish and that usually does the job. I started out last summer with 2 8lb balls and paracord to try it out to see if I liked downrigging and soon realised it was well worth the money.
