Gill-t -simply take a piece of electrical tape and tape over the side that the clip comes out on. This prevents the loss of clip by capturing it. Another suggestion is to take a rubber band loop it over the end of the boom, have it capture the black "Hook" keeping it in place thus allowing you to lower the weight to your preferred depth. That way you never need to remove the clip itself.Then lock it in position and finish lowering it. Having said that, I agree that the Roemer's are the way to go as far as stacking, esp with the adjustible tension setting. Another nice feature that the clip trips automatically when the clip hits the end of the boom thus allowing it to freely slide downwards. I use these as stackers, but as mentioned earlier, the Scotty's off the ball I.M.O. are tough to beat.

Chris, you will probably get a number of responses on this. My first inclination is that you stated these reels were loaded with 30# power pro with 300 yards and wanted for summer usage. If the fleas are abundant that braid will load up to begin with. Also, if you did decide to try this, there are times depending on where the preferred temp of your targets are hanging that you may only have anywheres from 500-700 feet left on the spool. Is that enough? I have caught plenty of " freight" trains that could have almost spooled us. In my opinion for what it is worth, it is marginal. I would take the plunge and invest in some Takota's, and load with wire as an option. Why take the chance on losing a fish of a lifetime. As you mentioned they would be fine for spring fishery however. Best of luck in whatever you decide.

Tim, Initially I thought the same. That is why I delayed in my first post. But looking at the enlarged view notice the so called X's in lieu of the round dots more reminiscent of a brown. Also, the tail has a slight V shape to it. It also looks like it has more of a silver cast to it than the olive brown of a Brown trout. Also, that tapered snout has me wondering. Maybe it is the way the sun is hitting it. Or just my computer image. I would like to see if there is another photo. Keith- bottom line-did this fish jump at all? Anyways Tim, thanks for your input. Eric or others, on my computer that fish looks like an Atlantic Salmon. What are your thoughts? Look at the lateral line and notice the X's. Also the tapered snout.

Rick, I had a friend who lives out in I believe Chichester N.H. who use to come out to Pt. Breeze on occasion. The guys name was Rob Stackhouse, who fished from a 22' Aquasport also on Lake Winni. Use to go be The Vacationer. Ever hear of him?

Bill, Rod, Jim,Hans,- thanks for your guys' responses. I've had the utmost respect for you guys thru the years, especially those of you who had the the opportunity to fish with their fathers. I can't seem to get my dad out on the water for he has the fear of it, since he almost drowned as a child. But I wanted to make this post, for those such as Hans, I've known he had a connection to the Oak at some point, but often wondered how he derived at naming his boat Upgrady. So I know and don't expect all to have a story such as some listed. That was never my intent.Just curious to how some come about naming their boat. Thanks to those who have responded. Have a safe and successful '08 season. P.S. Bill take care of that young man and enjoy every moment with him. They sure grow up quick.

Every once in a while some one post this question on various sites. So since the start of the season is quickly approaching and there is many who are new comers let's list some again-

Home port- Oak Orchard

Boat name origin- A good friend of mine Dave Guth ( use to go by Guppy and, whom I fished with for over 20 years) was just getting ready to semi-retire. He and his wife just bought a 35 trailer and put in at North of the ridge campground .They also just purchased a 24' Penn Yan the fourth week of Aug of 03- Well to make a long story short. on Sept, 12th just 2 weeks later he was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. I was the first he told. On Dec 27th he passed away of that year. 5 days before he passed away, he told me that he wanted to give me the boat as an act of our friendship. No compensation wanted, he was adamant about it. Well in the mean time i was trying to witness to Dave and firmly believe that he was right with the Lord. So I believe that even though he is not here in person, he now stands before God. So this is just my way of trying to keep his memory alive. He was the type of friend we all should be blessed with at some point in our lives. Thus- HeavenBound
