  1. 3 riggers. 2 outside riggers: Flasher flies, Center rigger mag spoon just below the other riggers.

2 wires: flasher flies. 1 thumper big paddle, long leader, fly.

Thats it for me on salmon rigs. Run that at the bar and run it for the fall.

I don't fish that many spoons anymore unless I get a first hand report while i'm out there.

  2. I'll tell ya what guys, I'm gonna be fishing even more on Cayuga this year. That new boat isn't just going to sit in the lift ya know! I'm taking my summer vacation at home this year too. So you are all in for a good fight to wrestle this trophy away from me!

Thanks for the compliments guys. My wife is very happy and thats all that matters to me. :D

  3. I have only done it once there. I'm sure if you go on a fri or a sat night there will be guys out on the north end jigging smelt. Find them and go watch and ask questions.

They will stay alive very well in a bucket, Just change out the water if they start looking bad. The water has to be ice cold. Its tough to keep them alive at home unless you keep them cold with an air pump. Ask my wife about live smelt in the fridg with the air pump.

I have always used a 2 in pimple, take off the hook and put a 2 to 4 in leader of 2 to 4 lbs test with a size 12 or smaller hook baited with a mousie. Keep the light right next to the hole. Not sure of the depth there though. usually 3 to 6 ft under the ice if I remember correctly. I think some guys just use small jigs with a bait and a little peice nylon stocking. I gues if they short hit they get their teeth caught in the stocking. ( I have never done that though) Lots of little needle like teeth on those buggers.

    Good luck

  4. The best way to get into the lakers there is to up towards the north end at night and jig up a bucket of smelt. Keep them live and set your tip ups out in the middle 90-100fow.

Large minnows will work but the live smelt work 10 times better.

  5. ah but Ray thats only the first part. Last night I just about finished the dock that goes out into the lake. All I have to do now is lay the deckboards. The whole dock system is now in place. Its in a U shape with the walk way to the other dock. We decided to make the walkway 8 ft wide so you can sit down there in the summer.

Now my wife is happy cause she has her own dock with a boat lift for her 21 ft Sea Ray. Happy wife = new boat for the rustyrat!

Yes I would say they have let out about 2 ft of water in the last week or so. My lift is now just about dry.

  6. Well I've caught my assortment of birds, mudpuppys, and junk. But my personal best was while grouper fishing in Fl last year. I had caught about 60, 20 lb grouper and I told the captain I was ready to try for a Goliath (one over 100 lbs). Now mind you we have to catch these fish using no drag cacuse if you let the fish run, they will go into the limestone caves and break you off. (This goes for the 20lbers too and the fight is incredible) So he rigs me up with a huge bait and i let her down to the bottom. About 20 min later I'm getting hit good. There is no hook set here just reel. So when I thought he had it good, I start reeling and wham fish on! I am hanging on for dear life let me tell you and I am slowly gaining on the fish. 40 min later still no sign of color and I'm soaked to the bone with sweat and my arms a burning like no king ever did to me.

Finally the over 100 lb brute comes to the surface!

  7. I was out on my buddys 18 ft Gruman with a red top. I had the radio on 68 too. I talked to one guy out there. We were out in the middle. We left around 11:45 or so. Not sure when I'll get back out. Bummer too cause it was excellent fishing, great for the winter blues. Its great when the kids can get into em.

  8. I was out on sat with my buddy and we lam basted em! Great time and great fishing. Gold J-9s and red and gold J-9s were the ticket on 2 color cores. Flat lines worked too. Took a few off the riggers down 20.

Thats it for me for a while though, I have to build 2 new docks and put a boat lift together.

  9. Ok my new ride has a virgin transom. I am going to mount some sort of plastic plate and then mount the t-ducers to the plate so I only have to drill the transome once.

Where can I get the plastic and what type do you guys use?

    Thanks
