I have experienced a small one on the south end of Cayuga when an intense storm blew through, always attributed it to a seiche. Maybe it was, it's not clear where the difference lies- maybe the meteotsunamis are from a quick push and the seiches from a sustained wind.

Anyway whatever it's called, it was pretty cool watching Fall Creek flow upstream for a few minutes, it repeated a few times too as the wave bounced back and forth across the lake.

Nice healthy looking fish. Still sounds like fun despite the wind and good sized fish!

I love fishing all night and much prefer casting but I really don't like driving home afterwards, that's my biggest problem with night fishing.  If it were 20 minutes sure but an hour and a half is bad news for me, the risk of falling asleep is high.  I might have to switch and start trolling, especially as I like actually catching fish too!

But being out when most people aren't, no blazing sun, man it's great.

Something to think about maybe, when doing bacon wrapped things I like half-cooking it first, 10 minutes maybe a little longer at 350 in the oven.  Helps crisp things up so you don't get either rubbery bacon or overcooked middle meat.  

Justin's BBQ ones come out great so maybe the sauce helps cook things more evenly in that case.  Good stuff I'll have to try that recipe out on the girlfriend next

It's great to hear from people who use and enjoy the jigs so thanks guys! I'm really hoping to put some real time into growing things later this year but I've also thought that for the last few years; hopefully things are in place this time. Time will tell.

But a quick update- the soft plastics inventory is now up to date and I have an order to fill the missing (and most popular) items, so within a week or so everything should be back.

catmandu if you're looking at my site, There is a slight possibility that I'm actually out of one color of the plastics that the site says I have and I need to figure that out. I had an inventory issue I haven't checked yet and I will be doing that in the next few days. If you email I can check anything. There are of course many places to buy both the plastics and jig heads. I know not painting the heads is a deal breaker for some but I can't do that anymore without actual shop space.

My personal favorites are the shakers- a good length and I really like the paddle tails. Other brands work great too. I usually fish the fluke style in deep water only because it drops faster but that's just me. Anyway I hope you find the tutorial useful and have fun out there!

As far as colors, I like white, crystal ice, limetruese, and seafoam shad, and the glow/chartreuse tail, not necessarily in that order. Occasionally something like purple or dark green.

Well tournament bass guys are a different animal, of course they'd refer to it as cheating. Look at them and their boats, you can't make much money selling bait or plastering "SAWBELLY" all over your boat

being a guy who use to fish this derby i have no problem with people using live bait simply because everyone can use it.  If you or anyone feels that live bait is unfair then you can just change your approach to use live bait.  Its only unfair if that style of fishing isnt open to everyone.

Exactly! How can it be unfair if everyone is allowed to use it? And bait doesn't always outproduce anyway. Anyone that thinks bait is a magic answer needs to fish more and find out it isn't true.

I really like my Coleman Marine, it's lasted a good 10 years (still going strong) and the only thing wrong is the lid hinges broke but I kind of like it that way.

Seems to be sturdier than their regular coolers and it's all white which helps in the sun. I don't know if they were better made back then but it's a great cooler. On the flip side I just bought a smaller Coleman for food and it's definitely lower quality, but it's probably at least worth looking into and they aren't too expensive.

Hey guys my wooden transom in my 16' aluminum is getting old. Getting a few cracks on the aluminum parts (stringers?) that come up and meet it in the center.

Anyway, the question is what should I use? This one appears to be a single slab of pine, untreated. It also lasted 20 years, pretty surprisingly. Use more pine but seal it, including drilled holes? Make something out of marine plywood? That sounds heavy to me. Get a slab of redwood? If plain wood lasts 20 years that sounds pretty good to be honest but I'm wondering if there's something else out there.

All the lakes go up and down with the years. A few years ago it was Cayuga with tough fishing. We had 8 lb. lakers winning derbies for a whole summer. There's still a lot of nice fish on the board here!
