  1. Yankee ... thanks for that info ... based upon yours and the other recommendations here i've decided to purchase the Heartlands ... I've fished with the Daiwa Eliminators for many yrs and never had a problem ... makes no sense to try and save a few bucks and have problems ...

know of any sponsors that sell them ??? I'd prefer to give them the business ...

    thanks again, Larry

  2. Jam, Thanks for that info ... even with an 'only once a yr visit' i certainly don't want that problem ...

i am also looking for a full core reel, that could work for copper also, for next spring ... maybe the convector 55l if they upgrade the drag a bit ... otherwise it will be the accudepth 57

  3. I am going to pick up a couple more 9' 6" Dipsey rods for our spring Olcott trip. I like the Daiwa's i have and decided to stick with that brand. I was looking at the Heartlands, Firewolf and the Wilderness rods. We live in NJ and unfortunitely we only get up once a yr for 4 or 5 days in mid may with the very occasional sept trip out to the eastern basin .

Opinions on these rods would be appreciated

I would usually just go ahead and purchase the heartlands but in this ecomony it's always nice to save a buck or two.

  4. well, that's not good news ... i was shocked to find there's no 'entry level' units available ... the garmin 430 or 440 is around 375 to 400 ...

i'm going to try and find an antenna but i don't really have much hope ...

i feel a handheld just won't work for us on the boat ... we need the dashboard mount for all to see ...

  5. it was Catching, not fishing, time in front of olcott the 18th and 19th ... a little bit of fishing on the 20th ... wonder bread spinnys with Atomik glow hammer flies did best ... black dipseys on 2 and 2.5 225 to 270 back

my last pirate 55 purple went to the bottom after my kid let the line get wrapped around a down rigger cable ... (not really his fault) ... purple and black spoons worked well off riggers ... 90 to 110 over 130 to 150'

  6. tuesday my trusty eagle accunav gave me a ' no signal from transponder ' or something like that ... i turned it on and off a few times, disconnected and reconnected the power feed abd the transponder cable with no luck ... i'm guessing it's toast ...

any recommendations for a decent low cost GPS that will be braket mounted on my dash ... i really only use it to save home port waypoint and fish on waypoints ... don't need or want a bunch of bells a whistles ... simplier is better ...

    thanks in advance

  7. 'We' only get to LO once a yr, :( ; (( . Last yr we were at the bar for 3 days, stayed in Olcott, did OK on the water but not great. We should have done better with all the fish being caught by maniac and others. I figure it's time for a 'tune up' on procedures. Do you guys have a recommendation for a half day charter ??? thanks in advance, Larry
