Don't be afraid of constantly changing lure depths and selections. If the fish aren't biting what you are offering, offer something different. And even though you may see fish at a certain depth if they are not biting change the depth. The beauty of running cheaters is that even though you maybe fishing deeper your cheater will still be targetting the shallower depths. And like the others said wires and dipseys can give you an added dimension. Good luck and keep at it. It will come to you.

  2. I agree with all the info these guys are giving you. Here's a little something to add. On your riggers with spoons always run cheaters. Even for salmon!!! This year we decided to give it a try and caught fish totally out of temperature. The more lures in the water the better your chances. We all feel like idiots washing lures on some days but that one day you whack'em makes up for all those slow days. Just keep changing everything that you can think of all the time.

    Perserverance baby!!!

  3. I have been tying my own setup for a couple of years now and I can definitely state that adding the stinger hook in front of the beads has increased my landing fish dramatically both on Finger Lakes and Lake Ontario. I cannot tell you how many salmon I have boated where the stinger has been firmly imbedded while the treble has not been. I tie my flies with 50# Seagar and it has worked great. Like others have said drag tension is very important. On s a side note just bought one of the new reels with the syncro-drag setup and it's the cat's-a#$^@!!!!

    Good luck.

  4. Wow, that is disturbing. It means that on the days that my wife and are out for a leisurely ride on the lake, not fishing at all, she needs to have a fishing license? In the fall we usually just cruise down the lake looking at the fall foliage. Even though I have a fishing boat, everytime I take it does necessarily mean I am fishing. Am I missing something?

  5. From the scenario that you asked the legal amount of rods out would be 2 per angler then you woiuld be allowed 4 rods in the water. If there are three people in the boat then at least two of them would need licenses. The catch is that the person without the license should not be handling any of the fishing equipment. Driving the boat, I presume would not be classified as fishing. If I am wrong please let me know. On a side note, recently while trolling by myself, I had what I believe the ENCON mirror my boat for over a half an hour from about a quarter of a mile away. I could actually see him watching me through a pair of binoculars. I sure he was checking the number of rods I had in the water. SO THEIR WATCHING!!!!!!

  6. After having just installed my own unit I can offer you this one suggestion. TALK TO HANK!!!!!! AP's are great but you need to make sure you match your steering setup to the appropriate unit. It is also good to have someone local like Hank that can help you if you need assistance. Just for the record I installed the Ray Marine SmartPilot and I love it. But I had to change my cable assisted steering to all hydraulic and by the time I was finished I thought I was gonna have to check myself into re-hab!!!
