    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

    ====================

Three rod set up, one wire and two riggers 60 and 100 fow.

King took to be named nk spoon off 60' rigger over 150 fow.

Despite the severe thunderstorm warnings, I studied the noaa radar and saw the bands forming 10 miles below the shoreline. I took my co worker for fishing. He grew up in Ottawa, Canada and has never fought the kings.

The lake was all sky blue and we were amazed by the sight of cloud formations south of the shoreline.

Screen looked good at 100 fow then it became blank until I reached 150 and saw tight band of bait down 60 and 80 fow.

It was quiet until right after the sun has set, the rigger rod fired and my favorite fenwick rod with daiwa 47lca was bending down as it was pulled by the king. I immediately hooked it and gave to my buddy. Good 15 mins fight before he boated his first king.

King was abt 22 to 24 lbs. Released successfully. Now he's hooked for kings.

  3. Congratulations Todd and the crew. You guys did great!

We were fishing on Liv N Ellie out of Rochester on Saturday for the Open. We did not find any big fish around Rochester unlike the weekend before. So many small ones were caught. The drive from Rochester to Sodus took nearly forever while we were racing against the noon deadline for the weigh in.

Sunday, I was not fishing the open division and went out solo and I landed five fish in two hours. I went back to Sodus that afternoon and saw that everyone in the open only had one fish. This is not a concidence. Note to myself for the next time- sign up for the whole weekend!

Although I only met a couple guys like Mike _Landshark_ I was hoping to meet the rest of the LOU gang. Perhaps, we could get to wear bright colored LOU hats/shirts in the future tournament and we would find each other easily!

  4. Sean:

Did you say which time of the year will you be in Alaska? The timing of your trip is important factor in deciding where you want to be.

In case you re driving toward homer or steward, be sure to stop by on your way to one of the best river, Kenai River.

I have caught tons of silvers during the month of July out of Kenai River My good buddy runs this charter www.kingoftheriver.com

    Best of luck.

    Anthony

  5. Ahoy, thanks for the fun time fishing on your cool boat.

The fishing past few days has been nothing but stellar when one want to count the number of catches.

I am going to find a little gadget on ebay such as a counter with a button that you get to click each time you catch fish and you don't have to worry how abt keeping track of fish catches.

    Tight lines,

    Anthony

  7. Great job out there today! Congrats on your successful double all by yourself!

Ted - I had the same question about whether one catches more fish while fishing alone as opposed to catching more fish with the group. There will be days when you catch more fish while fishing solo however I have learned that fishing in the Lake O may be most effective when fishing with a team. I would have never landed that monster king had I fished alone.

Also, I have read from others that the more commotion you put out there, more lines with more flashers, it brings more attention from the fish toward your boat.

When you get back, lets PM each other for some open dates.

  8. Guys, Dave Chilson was very kind to call me back with the answer to this question.

The LOC participant can only win ONE prize. ;)

Now, with my 32# fish on board, I am telling myself to forget about Brown Trout. Also, forget about the lake trout, Of course, forget about the steelehead. Note to myself "Think about the Kings!".

Good luck and safe fishing everybody!

  9. The derby fever has gotten to me. I am sure this question has surfaced in the past.

If John Doe caught a first place King and he caught a first place steelhead, if I am reading this right, John will only be qualified for one division prize either it be king or steelhead. More likely, John will be qualified for the king because it would have weighted more than the steelhead

"Is entitled to only one division cash prize. No participant may win more than one of the division prizes, although contestants may enter more than one fish. If the succeeding fish is larger, the smaller of the fish with least weight will be withdrawn."

  10. Lost my 15lbs torpedo with the depth raider probe off Hedges in 45 FOW due to kink on the cable. I have marked this location on my GPS in case I have the necessary dive gear to salvage these items. :o

Aside from this, be sure to get Blacks release before you connect the torpedo to your downrigger cable. I have a fixed black release and a free sliding black release on my port. The probe rigger only has a fixed black release.
