  1. How many of you guys who trailer your boats all summer have bunk trailers? I guess, I should qualify that question by adding guys with 20 foot or bigger boats. I have a 22 foot Starcraft and may be thinking of replacing my trailer. I broke one roller assebly the other day and may be looking at having to replace both roller assemblies and I think the springs need replacing also. Depending on the cost of replacing all this stuff, I'm considering a new or newer trailer. My trailer has roller assemblies with 12 rollers per side and the boat loads and unloads very easily. Just wondering how boats of this size go on and off the trailers with bunks. If I only used it to take the boat to the lake in the spring and bring it home in the fall, I'd go with the bunks for sure due to less cost, less maintenance and maybe more hull support. However, my boat is always on the trailer, except when I'm fishing, so I'm just wondering how the bunks work as far as loading and unloading.

  2. They both seem to get good reviews. I also have the D.R. and it is easy to read, even when I'm at the back of the boat. The D.R. display also takes up less space. So, I'd say it depends on how much room you have to mount the display and whether you prefer digital or analog display. As for performance, both are good.

  3. I've had the SG47LC's for a long time and they work fine. I have 8 of the SG27LC's also for planer board fishing. Never had a problem with any of them. If you only fish on weekends, I'd bet you'd get a lot of weekends out of the Cabelas Depthmaster II line counter reel. They have them on sale right now for 29.99 each. If they break, throw them away. Anyone using them?

  4. Maybe some will disagree with me but personally, if I only had a 14 foot boat, I'd limit my fishing to when the fish were near shore and then still pay very close attention to the weather. You don't want to become a statistic. I've seen small boats like yours fishing the lake but usually in the spring when Browns are near shore or in late August and September when Salmon are near the tributaries before their spawning runs. You'd still want to not be far away from your launch location or a safe harbor. It can be done but requires common sence and caution.

  5. Lots of Kings out there right now. I prefer the 11" inch flashers for running bait but they do work good with flies too. Most of these are duplicates of ones I still use. They have all taken kings. I've just accumulated so many, I don't have room for them in my flasher box. Where you going to get good flashers for under $5 each?

  6. Still available. $25 with shipping to the US side of Lake O. They actually work pretty well. I don't use them any more because I was given some of the metal ones. They'd be great for someone who wanted to give wingers a try but didn't want to dish out the bucks for a new set.

  7. I just put one on last year but I have never had any trouble getting fish without it. As long as you've got a good fishfinder, just fish the marks. Some of the best charter captains I know on the lake don't use them. All I ever did was watch the fish finder and watch cable angle. I'm still getting used to using my depth raider so time will tell I guess if it helps me much. Just saying, you don't have to have one to be a good fisherman.

  8. It's been so long since I've done this that I can't remember the exact setup but we used to put two rods on one downrigger using a size 0 dipsy without the ring on one of the rods. I think we called it the miracle rig. We used the dipsy to keep that line off to the side to help avoid tangles. Seems like we let it out 25 or 30 feet before putting it in the release. I remember I ran a NK28 behind the dipsy. Someone refresh my memory here. Don't recall if the dipsy was the bottom rod or the top. I remember you had to let it down slowly, so that the dipsy didn't roll over. Anyone?
