Following quote from LOC Rules and Regulations:

    http://www.loc.org/RULES_AND_REGULATIONS.html

    18. Is entitled to only one division cash prize. No participant may win more than one of the division prizes, although contestants may enter more than one fish. If the succeeding fish is larger, the smaller of the fish with least weight will be withdrawn. Only Salmon are eligible for the Grand Prize.

Maybe the laker is in because it is the "larger fish" ?

  2. That should be a great time for salmon out of either of those ports but it will probably also be during our peak flea season

We combat the fleas by using wire instead of braid on our divers and go up to 30# mono on our riggers.  The past couple years I've been using Blood Run's Sea Flee line and it has really helped.  I hate fleas and they can get really bad at times.

I fish out of Arney's in Sodus and there's usually a lot of chatter on vhf channel 9 on the weekends except during the ProAm.  Watch the reports on here to get some ideas on where to start.

  3. I just checked Navionics Web app and it has full contours for Cowanesque so I know I could download to my Navionics + card and view it on my HDS

Here's a link to the web app, not sure if it will work or not

Edit: The outline is all that shows from the above link, looks like you need to have Navionics Chart viewer installed to see the contour lines

  4. I have the same setup with a 5.7 L and a T9.9
Used the extra outlet on my fuel filter and have had no problems. I did install a valve at the filter for the kicker but have used it only for servicing the filter. The primer bulb has a check valve in it and should be installed near the kicker. You should use USCG A1-E15 fuel line inside the motor compartment from the filter to the primer bulb. The fuel line that comes with the bulb is probably not rated for inside the motor compartment

  5. I went with a TR1 Gold for my kicker because:

1- My PY has power assisted cable steering  -  If main is not running there is no power steering

2- Not enough room behind helm to install rotary cable drive unit

3- Did not want to listen to a rotary drive unit all day and had concerns about it's durability over  time

4- Did not intend to use AP on main motor - just for trolling

5- Best alternative option was to convert steering to hydraulic and install a hydraulic AP on main and use an EZ  steer to connect kicker - higher overall cost

I've been very happy with the TR1 and believe it is why I can get away with a T9.9 kicker motor on a 25' boat.

It is extremely reactive and helps the kicker hold it's course in some challenging conditions - wind, waves, currents.

It is quiet and so far ,5 years, no problems.  If the conditions get too rough for the kicker alone I just start up the main motor, drop in a couple trolling bags and still use the kicker and TR1 to steer and fine tune my speed.

If my PY already had hydraulic steering I probably would have gone with a hydraulic AP on the main motor

    Hope this helps

  6. On my Penn Yan there was more room inside the transom for a backing plate on the port side since the power steering, trim motor, fuse box and the electrical switch were mounted on the starboard side.

Whichever side you mount it on try to keep it as close to the center line as possible without interfering with your I/O

I am assuming that when you refer to a x400 you really mean a Fish Hawk X4 or X4D ?

I run an Airmar B60 50/200, which is the thru hull version of the P66, and  a X4 together on my boat and have never seen any interference between them.  I'm usually running both 50 and 200 kHz on a split screen.

I also have a Lowrance 83/200kHz transducer that is mounted only 5" away from the Fish Hawk and I will occasionally run it at 83kHz with no problems. I will see cross talk interference on my HDS units if I run both transducers at 200khz together but still not have any problems with the Fish Hawk.

I do have the Fish Hawk transducer mounted higher on the transom than the 83/200 so that it is a little above the bottom of the boat and it is not causing turbulence when I'm on plane

  8. I used 30's for my wire divers for a couple years and was never comfortable with the line counter on my wrist.  I tried a couple 40's set up with 300yds of 30lb Sea Flea for my riggers and found the line counter was high enough that it didn't bother my wrist.  Last year I spooled up a couple more 40's with some backing and 30lb wire and started using my 30's for 20lb wire.  It seems everybody on my boat prefers the 40's.

The gear ratio's aren't that much different but the 30's pickup 35" of line while the 40's are 47.2" due to the larger spool diameter.  Both reels are real smooth and it comes down to a personal preference.  Still like the old Sealine LCA's with the line counter on top

Mudflat, is that a 25" shaft on your Yamaha? Looks like we have the same boat. I wasn't sure a fixed position bracket would get the kicker far enough down into the water. Do you have any more pics of your install?

Yes that's a 25" - I tried a 20" shaft and it worked ok most of the time but would ventilate occasionally in rough water (3 footers).  I could have mounted the bracket 2" lower, with the bottom of the bracket right at the water line, and the 20" would probably have worked fine.

The 25" motor still comes completely out of the water when tilted all the way up.
