  1. Just happened to look on Google Earth and found a boat launch on Scriba Town Road about 2 miles east of Nimo 2. Has anyone used this launch and are there any fees? Sure would beat launching in Oswego and driving east on the lake for a few miles. Thanks, Jeremyseg
  2. Right. What tbromund said. Plus it's also a good idea to try trolling around where the cloudy water meets the clear water. Sometimes the fish will use this as an ambush site to catch their prey. Jeremy
  3. Dumped the boat for the first time this year out of Wright's Landing. Headed east out of port along the shore for awhile but turned back because the temps got lower. Harbor was 40-42 and it was getting colder the further east we went. On the way back we hit a nice brown in 12 fow in front of the water treatment plant on a purple/yellow belly Smithwick Rogue on the planer board 50 back and 100 out. After reseting the board we had another hit a few minutes later but lost it. Felt great to be back on the water again! Probably 10 boats out in the area this morning.
  4. Well I found out this morning. lol I went over to cast off the breakwall and the bay is still iced up. The launch is open and most of the northern half of the bay is open, but lots of ice breaking away from the southern half and piling up near the entrance to the channel. Looks like it may be there for awhile yet as there is still alot of ice in the south half of the bay. No action off the breakwall either. Water may be just a tad too cold yet?
  5. Just wondering if anyone knows on the status of Little Sodus Bay. Last weekend the launch at the north end was still iced up. Hoping to get the boat in sometime this weekend. Thanks, Jeremy
  6. Our first salmon! Spent the last year on this site reading and bugging everyone and it paid off big time. Caught a nice coho saturday morning and dad got this king sunday morning. We lost a total of 3 more kings combined over the two days. (one because I learned we needed a bigger net to land these puppies) The other two spit the hook after we got them close to the boat then they decided to quit playing with us and head deep. All 5 hits came on a mountain dew/white spin dr. with a green glow howie fly 77-85 down over 100 fow. I can't thank everyone enough for the advice they share. Special thanks to Billy V. I know there are alot of charter captains on here who share ideas and tips, but Billy seems to really enjoy trying to help newbies like us out. Once again, thanks to you all! Jeremy
  7. Saw lots of bait around 100 fow, but no marks. Saw 3 boats out all morning. We got a nice steelie in 100 fow 40 feet down on a purple nk28. We were 5 miles east of Oswego, and maybe 2 miles West at times, but didn't see any marks at all. Dad and I were happy though, it was our first steelie and it was a nice morning until heading back into the harbor when all the blowboats were coming out at the same time. They are SO FRIENDLY!!! Anyone else have any luck around Oswego? Jeremy
  8. I'll be heading to Owasco for the first time in about 10 years. Just wondering how the fishing has been for lakers and rainbows recently. Also it looks like walleye fishing has been hit or miss? Any reports would be very helpful. Jeremy
  9. Hi guys. I will be purchasing a speed and temp unit this summer and wanted to get everyone's opinion on which model they use. Seems alot of guys use a Fishhawk or Depthraider, so I'd like the know the good and the bad of the different models. I am leaning towards a Moor sub troll because of the price, but I'm not sure. Thanks for any advice, Jeremy.
  10. Hi guys. Just wondering if anyone knows of a public boat launch near the east shore of Oneida lake? I've never been down that far but I think that's where we are heading this weekend. Thanks.
  11. Hi guys. Here's a rookie question to everyone. When figuring downrigger depth, do you just go by the cable length, or figure in the angle of the cable and get the actual depth? I've only been out twice so far and I'm trying to pick up as much advice as I can to see if I can have some success before the season ends. Last week everyone on the radio was saying 70 feet down so I had my cables down 80-90 figuring that was pretty close with the angle factored in. Thanks for any help. Jeremy
