  1. Distance from your ducer to the DR ball is the depth your reading.. not the actual depth of the ball. My ducer is mounted mid ship. On low frequency will 100 ' of cable out my actual depth is about ten feet shallower that stated on my 585... I adjust in my mind accordingly. Thats why I believe running a split screen is helpful. If I see fish on both sides.. I suspect they are clost to depth im reading because the narrow hi frequency is seeing them. If only on low frequency side definitely not under the boat and up to ten or more feet different from numbers shown on screen. . If your transom mounted you numbers will be closer to actual but not exact. Phew. My head hurts

  2. I didn't get that one either.  I guess I just use any approach that has worked for years    As far as the distance back of the main spoon I just start at about 20 ft back and lengthen it as I change spoons if they don't get bitten on. If they go too far back they may not work as well because there will be a bow in the line (which I suppose could either hurt or help depending on the spoon selected). Most spoons seem to give more action the shorter the lead especially on turns.

Silver Fox was joking ...  I was just trying to shed some light on the color spectrum, and light penetration. suggesting using reds and orange down 60-75 ft.  If you apply the scientific theory, reds and oranges are black at those depths...  so if they are hitting reds at 75 ft., all the better, but they aren't seeing red like in the top 20'...  just food for thought........

  3. Small to medium spoons in bright colors (hot pink, red, orange etc.) trolled quite fast (2.8-3.2) and usually out deep where you said and down 35-75 ft or so for starters. Sometimes they will take small sticks on the bottom main line with a small active spoon cheated above it ( I've had better luck with sliders unfixed). Have to look for them because they love to roam.

I guess u r not a proponent of the Roy G. Biv approach to color presentation?

  4. I do no believe u will get 5 or 6' feet per color...  probably more like 4 imo.. and alot of "depth" experts will tell you leadcore flattens out after ten colors or so.. so if thats true blow the dust off ur coppers...  200 n 300 coppers are my favorite on the boat..  easy to use,,,  church boards of big boards,,,  trout or salmon..  so versatile,,,   jusy my opinion..  good luck.

  5. Don't use peanuts on Lake george...  skulpin/darters are not a frimary forage bait there   Trailer up to Bolton Landing...  Launch at Norowal marina.  head into Northwest Bay (straight north)  and fish in front of indian creek and south to Bell point.  Fish the top ten/fifteen feet with sticks and small spoons (suttons/stingers) off boards if you could. Lakers are preying on smelt that are spawning in that creek (or any other small creek on the lake). Stop at the Outdoorsman sport shop on the way north (diamont point) Gary will hook you up  (btw smelt are illegal to possess on LG) so forget live bait.  good luck

  6. spring browns are ferocious eaters and will hit most anything that is properly presented...  with that said size more that color has a bigger impact on success, and size can change day to day depending on the forage that is availible.  IMO   so break out the wallet and stock up!!!  :)

  7. If I have a hot paddle I dont change a thing. Guys who fish with me have been berated for removing swivels from attractors...HHHMMMM I may need to seek professional help....

I always tie a loop, but I always tie my own leaders.

I tie a overhand loop knot on all the leaders and have a heavy snap on every paddle on the boat.

and yes I have been yelled at by Brian.

  8. I think this is a great comment. On my boat the chute rod seems to do much better in rough water c/w the boards and it must be all the inertia from the boat going up and down in the troughs of the waves adding action on the lure. The otter boards on the other hand are so light that they tend to skip from wave to wave adding less action.

Great comment Tall Tails - thanks for sharing

Inertia vs.jigging action! Hmmmm. Lets debate this. Lol
  9. Al, you can be sure your position at the top won't be threatened,,,  you guys are pro's!!

LOL Rascal, I mean Hank!!  I will hame more time for sure.

Thanks again to all you guys,  Stop by "Club Red" and say hi.

BTW.... Red Dock has a reputation for good times and that is well deserved. Good people, great times, a small community for sure. But when its time to fish, and when there is money and stiff compitition on the line its all business for sure. Its a great combination i must say!! :)
