  1. Regarding Mooselook wobblers, good for top twenty feet of water in those colors. Remember red and orange are the first to lose their color in the color spectrum.

I would use cowbells followed by a small evil eye in chartreuse or white of green. Or a popular lure behind cow bells or clean is a small Fireplug. Spin n glows as well. I used to pull a OO dodger (trash can or green) with a short leader ( 12-14 in.) to a small fly.

Worked well. 10 ft behind the ball.

  2. now is a good time to troll the flats north of Long island. Start in about 90 ft of water just north of the island. head north, bounce bottom. the bottom is sandy and will gradually get deeper.

its been a good spot for me in tears past this time of year, and easy to fish without and dramatic depth changes that LG is famous for.

  3. Adk, I definitely was ranting. So I assume u don't agree with my assessment of the way the marina is being run. I stated that I would attend a town meeting but I am not a resident. Most local boards only recognize taxpayers and require an address before you can speak at a public meeting.

Additionally I am not that broken up over how poorly the place is being run, I'm just stating the facts. If it gets worse I have the option to move. I have been a dues paying member for 13 years, and transient dockers for 6 more. I have seen the decline in everything. Lack of help, poor maintenance of the docks, bathrooms, showers etc. The marina used to be full, now not even close. People I know personally left because of these issues.

So if you think my statements can be refuted at a town meeting and there are two sides, your right. The other side is the fact that the marina is run by a town with elected and appointed officials . I worked in govt for 30 years. The don't care if I leave, or if I complain, they are not in the business to make money, or make friends. They are in the business of getting reelected and reappointed. I can't even vote there, so my concerns mean nothing. Jeanne Cooper ran the marina for many years. She retired two years ago and I'd shows in many ways. There have been thefts from boats, disorderly conduct at night around the docks, the seasonal help used to include responsible adults that did a great job, now they hire young kids who are clueless, apparently in a cost savings measure. Once again, I'm ranting because I can. If your in disagreement that's fine but I already know the other side of the story.

  4. FYI, in addition to the "confusion" about the cleaning station, which in my opinion should be open 24/7, the new administration in town, to include DPW supervisor and wright's landing coordinator suck so far. Docks were in early this year, but no garbage cans, so garbage was all over. Bathrooms weren't open, so guys were pissing on the back of the building. No power on the dock, so people sleeping in cars in the lot. No water, and still as I type this no cable on the dock even tho we paid for it. Members traditionally received our seasonal stickers in the mail, but this year we have to pick them up at the booth, no big deal but when asked why, we were told it's to save money on mailing them??? WHAT? the booth wasn't open until well into May, and boats were launching for FREE for 4 weeks? At 10 dollars per launch. The logic behind this decision making is rediclous at best. Rant over.

  5. For anyone who hasn't seen this post before or who might be interested in building the planer boards from the plans Musky provided. I built those boards out of cedar approximately 15 years ago. I still use them today. They pull harder than any other if have used (on other boats) Ottor boats included. ZERO maintenance, cheap and effective. Thanks Bob.

  6. I'll clear it up for you Iceman, I know this has always been a problem for you.

It's 10# on all the spring trout rods "all year long" then there are spoon rods just dedicated to kings, they have 15# mainline, and leadered down to 12 ot 14#

Then there are rods for flea season and FF or meat rigs, which have 40# main, and leadered down to 15 ot 20# for spoons.

Yea all fish swim away am 20 plus lb kings, yup, pleanty, but I referred to the AVERAGE size of spring kings, all age classes are caught, not just spawning age fish. Hope this clears things up for you. Run whatever you want, good luck.

  7. The real question is what temp do alewives prefer. The answer is I have no idea, but I do see them throughout the water column and the fish are usually with them. So I say fish the fish, not the temp. Truth is, most have caught kings at 42 and 70 in the same day. If you don't see any fish, 42 to 58 works for me as a starting point.
