  1. A buddy of mine says he went up as far as he could go in a boat last fall for Kings. Nightfall came, so he said he drifted back downriver to the bridge, and anchored. He hung his Coleman lantern out on a downrigger boom so he could see his lines, and drifted egg sacks. 15 minutes later, his rod got yanked out of a pole holder! He grabbed it just as it hit the water, and thought it was a monster king, till it was in the net... he proceeded to catch 1 channel cat after another for over an hour. I can't wait to get up there and see it for myself. Everytime we go, we catch something different. Steelies, bass, pike, etc.

  2. Thanks! I'll go digging...

I got a PM that said if I can't figure out where its being disrupted that I could put a manual switch that connects the 2 sides of the starter soilnoid, basically bi-passing the ignition switch.

However, I'd rather fix the problem than put a band-aid on it.

  3. I caught one drifting in front of Russell casting a daredevil... Fought like hell... funny thing was that it wasn't even on the treble hook. It had bit onto the line about 6" before the lure and wound its mouth shut with the line! It was pretty decent size @ 32"! They are pretty crazy looking.

  4. It was peeing lightly, but only ran for maybe 2 minutes as well. Just bought a new battery last night since the old one was 4yrs. old and even after fresh charge only 12.3. Goofed with throttle alot to make sure what clicked as neutral actually is. This is odd: turned key in driveway, nothing. Trailered it over to a friends house to see what he thought, turned key and it fired. Took a step back to laugh, turned key again, dead.... I'm thinking there's a worn wire somewhere...

  5. I put a 1983 classic 50hp merc on my boat last night. All went well, fired up just fine, idled well, and decided to dunk it in for the inaugural ride. It ran great! After cruising for a few minutes, decided to pin down a few cuz the bow was bouncing too much. Shut it down, moved the pin, went to turn the key again, and nothing! 20 minutes of messing around with every wire, nut, screw, connection, fuse that I could find, NOTHING! No click or noise, fish finder still read 11.7v's even. Any ideas?

FYI: Paddling from the 104 bridge to the state launch in I-Bay is tiring, and takes about 45 minutes!

  6. Nice! I went out last night for a few hours, trolling right where you're saying (Held's Cove), and nadda! Marked plenty in the 15 - 18 range, just couldn't hook 'em. Water temp is 73 already, so next night out we'll run deeper I think. We got a small bucket on the other side so at least we weren't skunked ;)

  7. I'm selling a 1987 Johnson 28hp long shaft outboard motor, possibly with controls. It's a great running motor, perfect idle and trolling is exceptional. Electric start, and fires up on first turn without a fight every time.

It's currently on my boat, so let me know if you want to see it running at the dock in the Rochester area.

$1,200 obo. I would trade for a decent 40-60hp if possible.

    Happy boating!

  8. Nice catch! Nice boat! I saw you drifting out there Friday... I was in the 15' aluminum Lowe, with lesser luck than you had. What a beautiful day! Did the rain clear up Saturday? Which hours proved better for you?

Your the man for staying back with your buddy. Fishings a good time, but you have your priority's straight. Wish him well.

  9. I'm not going to be able to talk the crew into getting canadian licenses, but we could drop our boats in at Chaumont, seeing that its only a few miles from our cabins on the river. There's a launch around there somewhere right? You suggest the trolling/stick bait program? I'm completely new to eyes, only caught a few casting for bass in the rift of Wellesley.

When do you think they move into that area? Thanks for your help!

  10. I couldn't tell the difference, but a marina worker once told me that a rougher surface holds water and air, which creates a buffer /or shield, which glides better. I'm still leaning towards the less friction idea personally, therefore wax it once a year. I think he's outhinking it, but if anyone else has heard of this theory, please elaborate.

  11. We set up the dipsy/bomber trolling program for walleye Saturday night from 11:30-2:30am and didn't catch a thing! Saw alot of marks in the 20-30fow but no takers. We worked the east shoreline from the sand hill to Glen Edith.

    Any suggestions?

  12. When its just me, I get about 20-25mph in it. +1 maybe 15-20, +2 I'm fighting to get on plane. Not sure the weight, but its a deeper v with fishwell, side console, floor, etc. so its pretty heavy. I'm just looking to get it moving. I've changed pitches, through on a whale tail, pinned to every angle.... Just unhappy with performance. I'm not looking to pull multiple water skiers, just the ability to bring out a couple of people fishing or to the beach.

40 sounds like it will do the trick then. Thanks!
