  1. Just Another bad idea by the state...

There is a lot of people I see that hunt that never had a kids day. I would think any Dad or Guardian would be more than happy to give a opening day to help a child have a good opening day. When does the state become so set on the idea of harvest, or killing of the animal is what these kids need to be interested in the sport. Many good stories and memories I have are not all days were we harvest something. These kids will get two easy years of hunting then become 16 and find out it not easy and most kids of today will give up. Its like little league all kids get a trophy, no matter what they place or accomplished. What happen to work hard get first place and receive a trophy.

Public land to Private are two different woods to hunt. Since turkey youth hunts on public property I hunt, the toms are already call shy compare to Opening days of the past. Deer on last opening day were in shotgun mode by noon. I believe three days with guns will be the same. The rest of bow season will be harder for people. On state land five uncle's can drive off woods after woods to get the kids shots? more people hunt there driving deer then sitting. three days of this I think will change the deer’s behaviors. You will see less deer taken on opening day of gun season and bow season. So people who have been hunting will be frustrated sooner and the sport will lose more people.

How about safety, Bow hunters were orange or orange band around the tree like PA??

I have two girls who I hope take a interested in the sport so I can share these traditions with them. I just don’t feel this will be accomplished in three days youth hunt. It will do more bad then good for the sport. I remember sitting in the stands just to see deer two years before I could even hold a bow. Joel

The State is running out of youths hunts, soon will be catch a king in the bath tub day!

  2. Just got back from Chaumont Bay, perch were good 25 of 30 feet of water. Half to weed thur the small ones and gobys to get some nice size ones. Seen guys picking up sheephead in bay. Heard of browns out off the hidden harbor area, We fish black river, Jig head and worm for walleyes, but all were to small to keep right around 15 inches. rockbass and sm. bass were around the edges. Hope to be back for fathers day weekend.

  7. Had a good start for opening day. One nice big doe at 8 & one at 11. Did not see the monster buck I was hoping for but some nice meat for freezer! Was starting to field dress the 2nd one, We were buzzed by Mercy Flight. They were flying over us doing circles. Knew it was not a good sign. Not far away there was a accident (like 400 yards). I give my sympathy to the friends and family. Stay safe everyone and have a good holiday!

  8. I noticed pike doing this before in the alabama swamps, in some of the water pools (ringneck marsh) and blackriver bay backwashes, I thought it was to look for baby geese ,ducks, baby muskrats but it seems only to be late summer when I seen this. I wonder if it is a water temp thing. I have only seen it on warm summers. This summer some of those ponds have to be in there 80s. Has anyone seen this when the water is cold? Seems like they would do this more in the spring when there are babys everywhere, unless once the babys are gone then they need to look?. Wish i could get them to do this thur my ice fishing holes! :D

  10. Nice Fish, Going to head up this weekend, Was thinking of trying Red lake or Butterfield, Do you know if the water is high, Last time we fish, We launched at Indain River then went into red lake. I tried one time during summer and water was too low.

  11. been getting them out of small boat harbor, seems to be small pods of fish on all spots, seneca, meyers, smokes, departure bouy,

  12. Erie last night 6-11-11,

    Got a 3 man limit.

Four eyes before dark, 40 fow stickbaits.

the rest came after dark in shallow 8-10 fow, Starting to see some weeds.

Good luck to those in the southtown derby..

  13. eye spy, The hardware store is were we get the perch bait, I seen the pic in there of the state record sheephead. The one we caught was very close, As soon as we pulled it in it started too drop (eggs i hope) look like a sausage stick, u can see it in the pic, My friend wanted to take it to get a offical weight but i figured it would be 4lbs lighter, the belly look like two softballs, we got her back in the water. The pole she hit was a 27lc, When she hit it took out to 375 on the line counter. ( good thing it was no smaller of a pole) gave us a good fight i was thinking brown or laker??? Then i seen the circle and big lips!

Carpedium, The perch fishing the last three years have got better, I fished simcoe, erie, Right now They have been the biggest i ever seen in chaumont bay. We been getting them in 30-50 feet, We fish all over up there, but it is always nice to have a good shore lunch with some perch. Most of the ones i cleaned there bellys were loaded with gobies. Cant wait to get back up there.

  15. I like this idea for walleye to be 8lbs, I think lake trout should be change to 16lbs or 18lbs, the biggest of the days winners (for loc) were all over 18. Most people are already keeping the walleyes they catch , but i seen two 12lb lakers thrown out in youngstown this year and three 14 or so on west creek rd. All those 12-16lbs will grow to be derby winners!! (Special with no laker stocking i think this would help for the future)

Heading up too black river this weekend hope the rain holds out. Will post a update when i get back.

  16. I totally agree with you. No one needs a Ak at the checkout at rite aid. After seeing how unions, politics, etc work, Example would be, If you had a boat and would like $200 dollars for it. You need to ask $300, the person paying is going to offer a $100 and with luck you would end up at $200. (Then they take the tax out lol) I know in Ny outdoor news or any other source, it amazes me some of the bills that make it to the floor from peta, shark organzation. For everyone that gets turned down they rewrite to vote on them again. One recently I saw was for a ban on blackpowder limit, which was so low it would make bullets illegal to have. If the other side wants all guns banned you need one side to ask for all guns. That is just my thought. Any club that represents your interest would be a good choice but some time they need to be a little out there to get to the middle.
