  1. Three of us boated 27 lakers sat at the south end in 137 fow. in about three hours. 3/4 oz watermelon diamond jig was the bait of the day. All but 6 were released in the water. A few nice ones around 5 lbs. Will have another go at it tomorrow if the north wind isn't too bad.

  2. Anybodys nuts to go out during the cold water months without one. They saved three lives over the weekend near Watkins according to the news last night. Said they were in the water for nearly a half hour-seems like a bit of a streach but that's what was reported.

Our gang all use the inflatable belts, don't even know you have them on.

    Fish safe in cold water---

  3. I wouldn't be so quick to make fun of the "old" Seth Green rigs and pulling copper. Still used quite a bit on Keuka and Seneca. I still enjoy putting out a 5 spoon rig once in awhile and sometimes it will out fish the "modern" guys. Don't get me wrong, I have two boats both equiped with all the electronics but sometimes it's nice to get back to the Finger Lakes "roots".

  4. I would like to try jigging for lakers this fall at the north end. Havn't been there in 25 years. How's the launch ramp? Have a 15 footer with a 40hp so will have to use only the electric but have two spare batteries. Was wondering how far south you have to go to get into deep enough water to try for lakers?

Thanks for an and all help.

  5. Winter provides some of the best fishing in the Finger Lakes, Just pick the better days, I'll fish whenever the projected high is 35 or better.

The best day I ever had jigging on Keuka was Jan 4 '08 when three of us boated 51 lakers before noon. All but our limit were released in the water without netting/handling--all survived.

  6. If you have an idea they won't be a keeper then bring them up slowly and they won't get airbound. Also-- don't even net the throwbacks just reach over the side with a pair of pliers and shake the hook out. We usually catch(and release most) a couple hundred trout a year and havn't had a "floater" in many years. Other than bringing them up too fast so they get airbound, the netting , handling and time out of the water is what kills the majority of lakers---they're pretty fragile critters.

  7. Great morning off Penn Yan in 4-6 fow. Cleaned 35 out of about 70 'gills/sunnies/perch. Fished from 9am until noon. 1/32 oz white jig tipped with a tiny piece of worm.

    Delicious!!!!!!

  8. Four of us from Addiason/Painted Post/Campbell had a two day charter out of Kingston last sat/sunday. Poor fishing for most everybody in that area last weekend. We took a 14 pounder and a handful of skippers. Captain worked hard and was frustrated that we couldn't find them. Fun trip anyway--got us out of Corning for a weekend.

Ray, See you at Captains Cove late summer-----
