  1. Question from a newbie about temperature. what is comfort zone range for both steelies and salmons ? thanks
  2. Ok, thanks for infos. Will continue to carry my powerpack also. I was told that a solar panel unit would be a great addition to maintain the charge.
  3. If I understand, it would be better to plug both riggers on a singlre battery isnt it ?
  4. I run VHF, GPS and fishfinder + boat standard accessories (livewell/baitwell/bilge pumps, lights) that's about it. No kicker on the boat yet so, I troll with my main motor. I have a perko switch
  5. Will be my first trip on the big lakes and I will experience fishing full days more intensively with the riggers than what I normally do. I have 2 batteries on the boat and want to get feedbacks on how it affect batteries performance. It seems that the Scotties are more efficient than others in terms of energy consumption but want to make sure I would have enough juice to start the outboard at the end of the day ! thanks
  6. Thanks folks, All these infos will be very helpful. Gene, I live in Quebec but I am pretty familiar with your area as far as been fishing almost all creeks and rivers for steelies since 1986. Especially the North Sandy and the upper Salmon R. Like to fish in the Mill creek at Sacket Harbour also. I think I'll go for plates on the corners + 2 outside 10 footers dipsy rods. 4 rods is enough for me I will fish offshore of Bowmanville in August for my first lake trip.
  7. Hi Fellas I'm targeting the big Steelheads. I mean beat my personal record (14½ lbs) caught in the Salmon River (Long bridge) 10 years ago. Now I'll be on the lake in early August on the North Shore. Where (depth) should I go ? What depth range should I fish ? What's the best lure/presentation? Dipsy or riggers? thanks
  8. Thanks Gene, How do you work the riggers from the corners when used with some dipsy rods ? are you pointing the riggers back or sides ? Do you use existing rod holders for the dipsys ? I'm trying to figure if I would need to buy extra holders that will be directed to the sides to make the divers out in my pattern.(the 4 trophy holders are all directed at the back)
  9. Hi, Just received my gimbal mount to fit my 1106 Scotty riggers in the rod holders.....Not sure it is a good idea. First I would have to cut the gimbal pipes by 1" to sit the base properly and I have the feeling that this set-up will not be strong enough to support the pressure. I've heard about bad experiences with gimbal causing stress cracks in the fiberglass around the rod holders. I am between 2 chairs now and dont know if I should go with this alternative or fixed mounts. Also, not sure of the best place to mount them. If I go with fixed bolted mounts, the easiest place looks to be right in the rear corners but is this would work well ergonomically in fishing situation. Would like to get some feedbacks and pictures of Trophy owners DR set-up. thanks Nelina
  10. How the fleas this summer ? Is the flea flicker is an good overall line over the fact it is non flea attractive ? I will fish the lake Ontario 3-4 days a year so I need a line that will work good in many conditions. For rod holder, I wan to put only 2 single holder on the sides. I already have 4 holders but the 2 at the back are pretty close to the outboard and not really convenient other than for trolling in the chute. By the way if there are some trophy walkaround boat owners here, I would like to see their set-up. My plan is to run 4 rods (2 riggers and 2 dipsys). I want the simplest set-up possible because once hooked, I want to stop the engine and retreive the other lines to feel the fish without the extra pressure of the outboard.
  11. Hi, I have a Trophy boat that is equipped with toilet and black water tank. What is the regulation on the lake ontario ? Since I have this boat I never used the pumping system but just want to make sure if I need to modify somethin' to be legal thanks
  12. Hi folks, I am a new member in this forum. Newbie as well for troll fishing the great lakes. My first trip to lake Ontario is planned for Aug 8th week-end and now I am in "shopping mode" to get at least the base equipment and lures. I already bought a combo Okuma convector 30D Blue Diamond (medium-heavy action). Now I want to buy another set and I'm between 2 chairs about going for another similar kit or the Daiwa Heartland 47. I want something versatile that I can use on both the riggers and Dipsys. The Daiwa kit do not comes in the med-Heavy action. What do you recommend ? Also, I plan to fill them with Fireline 30lbs test. Also, I need to buy a couple of rod holder. Which brand works the best (my boat is a Trophy 21 ft) By the way, I am french canadian from Quebec so, sometime my english may sounds weird a little
