  1. Thank you again lakeontariounited'ers for the recommendations on fishing today.

Fished the west side below Taughannock along the shore with sawbellys and med shoners 5 ft below a bobber. Water temp was 47-50 degrees. Landed 5 LL's. Spent 7 hrs out there and all the activity was in 1 hr around 2:00, just after the rain stopped.

  2. Suggestions for Cayuga tomorrow 5-16-17

I am going to take an inexperienced friend fishing on Cayuga tomorrow because the weather is supposed to be nice.

I have everything to fish for trout and salmon, except a kicker motor.

    The questions are;

Will I be able to catch trout and salmon drifting sawbellies? Is there a best area on the lake? Depth?

Should I take them perching instead? What area of the lake? Launch site? Bait shop?

    Thank you,

    G

Heading to Oneida next week Sunday afternoon through Thursday morning. Staying near Cleveland Bar. Haven't fished Oneida in many years. Not looking for your secrets, but any general advice would be appreciated. I prefer not to troll as main presentation. I am stocked up on blade baits and bucktail jigs, as well as crawler harnesses, etc.

    Appreciate any info.

I saw this post and thought it might help

    Oneida Lake

Walleye season opened on Saturday, May 6th. Anglers who braved the rain and wind did manage to get some walleye both in shallow and deep water. With round gobies now abundant in the lake, it may require some adjustment in the way anglers fish for walleye. The same thing was required when zebra mussels become established in the lake and the water went from turbid to clear, fishing methods needed to be changed to match the conditions. Gobies are very bottom oriented fish so sometimes just getting a foot or two off bottom will help to avoid some of them. If using worm harnesses try trolling instead of drifting, the faster speed keeps them higher off bottom and also helps to avoid some of the gobies. Using artificial lures instead of live bait can also help. Walleye tend to be "well fed" in goby waters and can be difficult to catch; full fish are generally harder to catch than hungry fish. Sometimes going for reaction bites can help, fish hit out of reflex instead of hunger. This can be accomplished by giving erratic action to your lures by speeding them out, slowing them down, stopping them briefly, giving short quick jerks with the rod, etc.

    Oneida

Worked an area and found quite a few fish hanging around in 20 feet. Good time until the storm showed up.

Can you suggest a location on Oneida to fish for perch?

    Thanks

Double boards are more efficient than single boards. Redwood does not rot and mine are 30 years old. Make them collapsible to save storage space on your boat. Use toilet flange screw bolts and wing nuts to attach the connecting plates. Save big bucks doing it yourself.

    Thanks Jimski. Redwood it is.

  7. DIY Planar Board desgn

I searched this site for "planar board", hoping to find a design for home made planar boards. No such luck, but I'm sure this subject must have been discussed in the past.

Does anyone have a set of plans for large (not inline) planar boards? I plan to use them on Cayuga Lake. Thank you in advance.

  8. ok its time for me to upgrade to a bigger boat    Im selling my 1978 18 ft aluminum starcraft that has a 90 johnson outboard and a 9.9 johnson kicker motor as well.  The 90 horse was rebuilt in 2010 by pugsley marine and is a perfect runner. It starts with just a turn of the key even in the cold weather.  The 9.9 kicker is a 1 pull motor and will run all day on a tank of gas (5 gal). I rebuilt the carb in it this spring cause it wasnt running right but now she runs like a dream.   The boat comes with a full canvas top, ez load trailer, lowarance mark 5x pro fish finder, depth raider down speed down temp, 2 collapsible planner boards and masts but the handles on both the reels are broke.  Now for the bad stuff.  the boat does have a slow leak in it somewhere but i cant find it cause i cant flip the boat over.  I have sealed everything i can see but couldnt get everything.  It hasnt stopped me from using it cause the bilge pump has no problem keeping the water out.  there is a small tear in the drivers side window up at the top.  The floor needs to be redone but i have laid new plywood in it so i could use it for this yr.  the boat has some flaws but that to be expected for a 1978. Im asking $3200 or best offer   Im really in the market for a bigger boat but the Mrs said I need to make room in the driveway before i can get the next boat so i would be open to any offers.   This boat was a great starter boat for me but now my lady and i are looking for something with a cuddy to sleep on and a boat big enough to tournament fish on when the weather isnt nice.   Feel free to pm me or text me 585 319 6106 my name is Dave.

You might be able to find the leak if you fill the hull with water while the boat is on its trailer in your driveway. Good luck.

I recently purchased a 1989 Lund Pro-V 1700 with a Yamaha 50 hp motor. I need a fish finder and a kicker motor. I'd like to keep the fish finder under $400. It looks like I need a long shaft kicker motor. Any advice on make/model of fish finder and recommended hp of kicker would be appreciated. I will probably do most of my trolling in winter months out of Taughannock. Thank you ahead of time. Gary
