  1. The best part of this site is all the info you get. You'll find not everyone runs the same program. What works for some doesn't work for others. My best advice to you...if you have a program your comfortable with from Lake michigan....try it on Lake ontario. You won't need wire, heavy mono, or long copper in may and it might be wise to stick with what you are familiar with. You'll have your hands full with navigating boat traffic and trying not to get run into shallow water.

  2. Some prefer roller rods but the majority of us just put a twili tip on a regular diver Rod. $10 addition. Any 30 size reel will work. I prefer saltist. John made a good point on the counter but they don't bother me. What do you have braid on? You might be able to use one of those reels. Long coppers require large reels. Check anglers Avenue or atomik to see what they sell pre spooled...for an Idea on reels and size. If you have 300 copper already you could opt to just add a drop weight for added depth.

  3. North Niagra launch is/was a shallower and less steep ramp. The south launch is steeper and never gave me trouble. Also nice cleaning station between the launches...behind bathrooms. I normally launch at Wilson but will launch at the bar if the bite is near the Canadian line. FYI the bite was pretty solid on the west end all season. Typical spread on my boat is 2 wire dipsys with flashers 2 riggers with spoons and free slider cheaters...and a copper down the shute with a mag spoon. Colors vary but greens...glows...and spooks are staples...at least for me. May the bite is normally in top 50 fow but watch for marks and adjust.

  4. Try to get on the water with whatever your looking at for a day. Maybe offer up gas to one of these guys with a starcraft or book a river/bar trip with a captain that's in their boat daily. They'd have a Great idea of pros and cons. Not sure what Vince runs but he'd be a solid choice for advice. Matt yablonsky would also have good input. He runs river and lake ontario charters in a lund. I know he had , starcraft for 1 season and went back to Lund. Guess my point is...try before you buy....buyers remorse in painful especially if you are looking to go new. Good luck in your search. I have an older Crestliner if you ever want a test run your welcome aboard.

  5. I bought a 300 ft spool to try out. It seems pretty nice to work with but if I can achieve the same depths with 200 and backing is there a benefit to running 300? Also...has anyone done a depth test with braid backing vs 19 strand wire? Braid and wire typically achieve similar depths so I am curious. Also curious if anyone tested copper depths with wire backing. If the weighted steel continues to achieve depth with wire backing why wouldn't copper do the same?

  6. It's a sad day for me reading this thread. A once unified group of good red blooded Americans freely sharing tips on how to put fish in the boat...now bickering over an election. My take on this...as if it matters...the last administration did one thing extremely well...dividing the country....and I'm not talking about skin color.

I wonder where we would be today if Mr Obama would've chosen the words "obey the law" over " fight back"? .how about "all lives matter"? One man with the golden opportunity to unify America failed miserably.

God bless America no matter who won the election. Let's focus on sticking together and solving real problems.

Just for the record....I'm glad my guns are safe for 4 more years. Disarming honest law abiding citizens will never be the answer.
