I have been in all the fishing stores and marine stores looking for a map of the bottom of Canandaigua. I cannot seem to find one. Are they just out, or isn't there one out there? Where can I get one if there is one out there?

I have been fishing it and no luck. Water is to high & muddy. Maybe when it comes down a little soon with less snow melt and runoff it might pick up.

Come see me at the Angler's Workshop on Saturday Feb. 1st from 9-4 at the Twelve Corners Brighton Middle School. I will be doing Fly Fishing knots for leader design sponsored by Main Window Cleaning and Fly Casting Tips in the large gym at 11:00. Proceeds at the door go to Trout Unlimited and Upstate Fly Fishers.

I was using a large 5" spoon in 16' of water and caught a 4 & 1/2, 26" pike in 16' and then tried jigging the same spoon in 30-60' and landed two browns. The big one was 5 pounds weighed on a certified IGFA scale and then I landed another smaller one. Felt good to catch a beautifull brown with out any downriggers and a great fight. She came right up to the surface and jumped. I don't know why they were in shallow water except cruising looking for bait to eat. I cought all three fish around noon then it shut down.

Like to know more about your technique for in the finger lakes. I am not a fan of trolling and using downriggers. Jigging sounds more exciting and more like site-fishing!

I fly fish for carp and have caught them on streamers in the big lake O and a crawfish imitation would be a great fly to try also.

landed a nice pike on a crankbait and a giant smallmouth on a large spoon in 8' of water on Sunday around 11AM.

Is there any chance of hooking any species like bass, carp, or trout or salmon with in 30' debt or less? Are all the fish gone deep because of the warmer water temps already? I would like to target one of those species with a fly rod from a boat and with an integrated sinking fly line I can probably reach my fly down to 30' maximum debt. I appreciate any help. I am afraid I would be waisting my time except for perch at the south end..

I have my best luk in the shallow weed areas with going with gold color gives lots of flash they can't resist and might want to try something weedless. Large size spoons loo.

Buy a Yeti if you can afford it. They are insulated the best & mention to be stood on !

My guess is that the more orange belly trout have been eating eggs & the silver ones have been eating more baitfish

Have you ever tied a bimini? Once I learned it I use it all the time. It is also called the 20 turn knot. I could help you with it. It is the stongest loop knot and I use it at one end and do a 3 turn uni knot to it.
