Years ago, this time of year I would fish the flats south of Taughkanock park. Carolina rigs with minnows were dynamite for smallmouth bass. Does anyone know what happened to this fishery?

Launched out of Taughannock Park, headed north of the Boy Scout camp. Trolled north....found tons of baitfish.....from 50-100 ft. of water. Set out 2 dipseys....one 255 ft., one 300 ft. I assume they were down 75-85 ft. or so. Maybe 90? All fish came in 80-100 ft. of water. I love fishing for lakers......Small Sutton spoons.........caught 5 fish (fat...between 5 and 7 lbs.)....not bad. Then, an incredible hit...I thought my rod would break. I literally could not move the fish.....finally it tugged....it felt like a tail snag....I had to stop the boat to even move it. SLOWLY it came to the boat. It was like pulling up a barn door....(ever been to Alaska for Halibut?)......bottom line? 14 lbs.!!! Not bad for Cayuga!
