Thanks guys! An awesome fish for sure!! go pro video that i will try to post when we get back home. Fished the same water this am and ended the morning 9-12, all kings. Mostly 6-10 lbers with one near 20. Fish seemed higher in the water today, a rigger down 30 was the most consistent producer along with a free slider on that rod as well. They seemed to prefer natural colored spoons today, although the bigger fish came on a SD/fly combo back 180 on a 2 setting. Great weekend to be on the water and an awesome first trip to the bar!! We will be back!

Launched at Fort Niagara and ran out to east of the red can and set up heading east a bit deeper than the rest of the pack. Before getting all the rods in, we doubled on kings....10lber and a 23lber. Worked that water for a few hours and landed 4 more kings in the teens. About 930 the 50' rigger fires with what I thought was another king by the screaming drag and long battle, but instead a 22lb steelie found its way to the net!! At that point we decided to head in and get the fish on ice as this one is going on the wall! 220 fow was best for us with the bigger fish coming on SD and fly combos on the wires, other than the steelie that took a spoon off a rigger down 50. Will be back out to try again in the am.

I had to mount mine right next to my Lowrance 83/200 and it seems to work fine. I have only used it down to about 30' but it seems fine. It is literally mounted right next to the other transducer, maybe an inch between the brackets. I will see how it performs in deeper water this weekend.

Fished out of I-bay yesterday for the first time in a long time....the reports of kings around Rochester was all the enticement we needed. Fished mostly from the bay to shipbuilders along with most of the boats that were out. The early am was good for a bunch of browns, a steelie, and my first ever atlantic. A small one but cool just the same. It took a couple hours but we did finally find some kings, landing 2 around 10lbs and one better one. That brute took us for a ride! Spring kings on light line are a riot!!! Sticks of the boards were good early but then it became a rigger bite with a stinger chicken wing being the hot spoon down about 8ft over 20-25'.

_{No idea about the NMEA interface, but something else to consider with the command link gauges is that will enable the use of the VTS (variable trolling speed) on the motor. This is awesome for trolling as you can increase or decrease the engine RPM in 50rpm increments by pressing a button, thus fine tuning your speed depending on conditions, direction, etc. It will also allow the engine to idle down lower than without. I know I didn't answer your question at all, but if you were unaware, something to consider. Honestly worth every dime I paid for it for that feature alone!!}

We launched around sun up and went west out of the chute thinking maybe the east winds had pushed the better water that way. Set up right at the wall and trolled west with 4 sticks on the boards and a couple of spoons fished of the riggers. Lots of cold, clear water but picked up a nice 10lb brown right of the bat. From there it was a lot of dead water until we got down toward Johnsons where we found some better looking and warmer water....and a bunch of boats. We would work that area the rest of the morning catching a bunch of browns, a couple coho, a steelhead and a laker. Mix of sticks and spoons doing the work but a blue\orange belly Rapala was the best. No monsters but steady action all morning until about 11 when the wind and the waves said it was time for the bumpy ride back to the Oak.

Took a ride up there today on the bike......still no docks on either side.

Anyone have an idea as to when the docks will be in at the launches at the Oak?

I was at the Oak last night and the launch on the east side by the Black North was open other than a small snowbank at the top. Open water all the way out to the lake, but still iced up just upstream of the launch.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for a rod and reel setup to use for running inline planer boards for browns in the spring? Looking for something that will handle pulling the Church walleye boards but not be too overkill for spring browns. Thanks!

1977 18' Starcraft Holiday

I suppose they both have their time and place but my limited experience says black is a better bet. Bought chrome ones this summer and was taking a bunch of fish off of the cheaters but rarely off the lure at the ball. Painted them black and immediately saw a difference in the number off hits at the ball vs the chrome, when comparing the number of strikes on the riggers to other presentations. Spray on truck bed liner seems to hold up well for anyone considering painting them.

Saturday my brother and I set up in about 100 fow and would spend the entire morning there. We ran 2 riggers, 2 wire divers, and a 300 copper off a board with a mix of spoons, j-plugs, ad FF's. It took a good hour or so before our first bite, but after that we would have a steady pick of kings all morning. It seemed that once we trolled far enough away from port and a lot of the other boats the action was better. We would end up 8/9 on kings plus a nice brown as well. All of the kings were solid fish ranging from 22-27 lbs. Took hits on most everything we had down but the 300 copper pulling an 8" e-chip and a mirage fly was the most productive. Called it a heck of a day around noon!

Sunday I took my GF back to the same waters hoping to get into some more big boys. We ran the same spread and had similar results although the kings seemed to be a bit smaller ranging from 15-20 lbs. We only had til 10:30 to fish but ended 6/6 on kings plus a nice brown and a laker. The bite seemed to improve as the morning went on. Would have loved to have been able to stay out longer but no complaints! Again a variety of baits took fish at a variety of depths. Wires from 200-250 and riggers from 45-85 as well as the 300 copper all took fish. They seemed to be pretty scattered in the water column all weekend but the 100 fow range seemed to be the ticket for us.

Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we can get another crack at a big one next weekend!!
