  1. Small to medium size baits. For casting try jerk baits, glide baits.

Would you consider a rapala j-11 small, and j-13 medium?

In response to above, I had considered spoons but didnt think trolling at such a fast speed they would have the proper action.

Thanks to all. It's all very valuable to me.

  2. I have fished Waneta in the fall for the past 4 seasons and have only 1 catch and release to show for it.  I am NOT discouraged.  This is what I love about fishing.  Learning and mastering.  Because I only have 1 fish to show for the days I've spent there, I don't really have an idea of what size bait is more effective there.  I'm guessing the musky run somewhat smaller there?  Would a Storm Flatstick be a reasonable size bait?  I have quite a varied size and type of lures.  I cast in the very early morning until I'm bored/exhausted and then troll.  Trolling speed has averaged 3.5mph.  My next outing I will try a faster troll.

    Looking for any input...

  3. I wasnt crazy about the amount of trolling tackle either, but I dont fish exclusively while in gear. Looked like they had a broad selection of items for all kinds of fishing. I hope its true as stated above that trolling tackle will expand. As it is right now, Gander has a better selection.

  4. What I was impressed by was the boat gear. I had never seen Cannons track system until yesterday. They were selling 24" tracks for $49 each. I bought 2. They are a perfect match for Bert's gear. Pricing overall on everything was competitive.

They also had a good selection of trolling rods and reels.

  5. Launched in the river solo at 8am and started setting lines on the way out.  Immediately after dropping the 2nd rigger I had a King on.  Before I got that fish in the 2nd rigger line was screaming.  Boated the 1st fish and brought the other to the back of the boat where it popped off.  Set lines again and got a 3rd flatline out with a jointed firetiger Challenger.  That line would go on to have 3 Kings on and lose all 3.  Each time the hooks were bent over.  Those have got to be changed.  EVERY time I made a pass by the pier heads or into the river I was hooked up.  Went on to boat 5 Kings ranging from 18-24 lbs, and 2 browns.  One gorgeous 8lb brown, and a small one that was foul hooked.  All revived and released.  This was easily the best solo run I have ever had and I can't imagine that the 3 or 4 other boats out there this morning weren't enjoying the same.  River temps at 60 degrees, and lake as low as 48.  Magnum orange/black Moonshine did most of the damage this morning.  Also took a fish each on DW superbread, and DW magnum Firefly. 7 for 11

Today was the perfect setup.  Almost no boat traffic, cloudy, cold temps, and a bit of rain runoff.  It was as if every King left in the lake was headed in.

  7. The person who bought our 28' chris craft years ago tried towing it home with an undersized ball and it came unhooked on I95 and was totalled... it happens, especially when people try to cut corners.

That is so stupid it makes me angry. Whatever the cost of that boat was, a proper ball hitch would have been the tiniest fraction of that and taken no effort or time to get. And to put other motorists lives at stake because you are lazy is WRONG! Nearly as bad as drinking and driving.
  8. What are the odds in such a massive body of water?!

Years ago I was fishing Braddocks and a pike broke off my j-11. Half hour later I am fishing in the same area and nearby I actually see my j-11 float to the surface, free of the fish. Still using it to this day.

Side note. You passed me heading out of the river yesterday morning. Want to say how much I appreciate guys like you and Sam on Dream Catcher for how you conduct yourselves out there. It can be so frustrating dealing with those who go ripping out of the river at 10-15 mph, leaving a wake, and then can't play nice around the pier heads. Thanks.

  9. Bought a new to me boat that came with a pair of these. Very nice condition. The booms are 4 foot long. Cant find any label on them but assume they are some variant of a mag 10 electric?

I just got a pair of tournament electric walkers and am wondering if the consensus is that these are better?

Oops the pic didnt load. See below.
