  1. Absolutely zero rut action in 9A. I have 41 hrs in various stands since Saturday and saw one 3.5 yr old cruising the beans and one doe shortly after on Monday morning. Decent action at night, according to cameras but all does are feeding in groups, and bucks just cruising. Last year was on fire, but this year has been horrible. I have a feeling I'll be eating my bow buck tag.

  2. The judge is a badass gun. I have a Taurus auto .40 and a Taurus raging bull revolver with 8 1/2" barrel chambered in .480 Ruger. The semi is a cheap gun (it was my first pistol) but the revolver is a tank. I believe the judge shoots 45 long colt and 410. Great for protection, but probably not a top choice to hunt deer with.

  3. Well I sat until 10:30 this morning and pulled a card when I left. I went home and brewed a pot of coffee and sat down to look at pics only to see that my target buck, a big old bruiser, snuck behind me Monday at 4:00. It was so calm that day and I didn't even hear him 100 yds away. Makes me sick!!! The good news is he came back early this morning down same trail along with 5 other bucks following does. Another was a wide 8 that I would have a hard time passing. Needless to say, after filling the thermos and making a sandwich, I'm back in the stand until dark.post-149813-14787138984439_thumb.jpg

This buck has to be 6 or 7 years old

  4. I've see nothing since noon, and that was a 2.5 old just cruising. My legs hurt and my A $$ is sore! Ready for a Miller Lite after this sit!

I was just daydreaming of the ice cold labatts in my fridge. Saw a giant cross the road on my way back from measuring Windows around noon. I got home, ate real quick, slugged a beer and was in my stand by 1:00. Haven't seen a thing yet this afternoon.

  5. Finally some action in 9A. My son had a big guy circle downwind and bust him last night. I just had a 3.5 yr old buck about to cross the bean field looking for love. A few grunts and anxious bleats got his attention, but I couldn't get him to commit.

  6. Bugs were brutal AND legendary. Hornets, wasps, yellow jackets, skeeters, and TONS of spiders enjoying the heatwave a lot more than the deer in 9a. Nautitroller--great buck, congrats!

You seeing any chasing yet around our neck of the woods, Vince? I have to finish building this last garage then it's 10 days in the tree. Seems like This weekend will be perfect timing

  7. I'm getting a lot of nighttime scrape activity. Called in a few young bucks before the corn was cut in one of my spots. But no chasing or daytime movement from the mature bucks yet. I let this guy walk at 50 yds late shotgun season last year due to being tagged out already. He's visiting his scrape line between 11 at night and 4:00 am. Hopefully next week will bring cold temps and daytime movement. That's my week off for the rut.post-149813-14779480528557_thumb.jpg

  8. In all seriousness. Unless you're running a charter operation or fishing tourneys why would you even want a 500' copper?

Sold mine last year and haven't missed it one bit. My wife took an hr and 15 minutes to bring in a 27 lb June King. That's just too long. I'll stick to full cores or 300 coppers at most

  9. Thanks like I said I've just been holding back,I'll start hitting it hard as we get into the 20's of Oct the dates not temps

My feelings too. Although the cold snaps have the younger bucks moving, IMO they are just breaking their bachelor groups and unless you have a big guy pinned down, chances of seeing one in daylight are slim. DVD, did u see the monster my buddy got a week ago? I know u like to hold off for the bigger bucks
  10. Get your grunt calls out. The bucks are feeling the itch. I grunted two youngsters out of the corn last evening. Both put on a show as they came right to me and tore up a tree and made a couple scrapes. I wish I was back in my stand instead of driving to work this morning

  11. Well I've been hanging on to this for a couple days, but my buddy finally made it official. Here's a pic of his monster buck shot Friday evening from the ground in Newfane. This is the third season he was after this buck. He has many pictures, the sheds from two years ago, and has seen it 4 times. It scores roughly 210" non typical, has 23 score able points, and dressed at 209 lbs. After seeing this years rack, he decided this was the only deer he would harvest this year and he got it done.
