  1. Otters. clams, frabills.....What we need are passports, as we'll all have to go to the tundra in a couple of years to do any ice fishing worth investing in; and maybe for only a couple more years after that. Maybe fishing for largemouths and peacock bass in greenland in 10 years! :P BTW, just a casual comment. No pro-con man -made vs totally natural (same thing!) global warming political fights meant at all....... 8)

Question as global warming was mentioned. Sure the fall was a litte warmer than usual (and sunday was 60*), i still ice fished the weekend after christmas, and we still have good ice. I have a question for the educated people out there (as im just a south dakota farm boy with a public education). If global warming is such pressing issue and the "polar ice caps are melting," where is all of the water?

Seems to me the last time the polar ice caps melted, God cleansed the earth and Noah was at the helm. So how is it that ALL the great lakes are 4ft low, and the midwest is/was in greatest droughts since the 1930s. I just dont know where the water went to, maybe the US government is selling it to aliens to offset the national debt...

  2. I might be chiming in a little late, but i ice fish a lot. I have had numerous clam shantys due to being a cheap a$$ have found that the quality of clam has greatly diminished of the last 5 years. I purchased a new clam last year and after loosely tightening the bolts to the seat base, when i sat on it, 2 of the bolts broke. Now it may have been the holliday cookies but i think its poor grade of clams bolts. I also bought a clam hub shanty for early ice so its easy to pull out when i have to walk. The third time i opened it up, one of the rods broke. I talked to the guy at gander and he said i was the third guy that came in that week about the same thing. I sent clam an email about the issue last week, (becase i lost my receipt) and they still have not gotten back to me, OVER A WEEK. Very poor customer service.

I bought a new frabill last year after dealing with my clam and stuff kept breaking and it wouldnt stay up in the wind and then it ripped in the wind... The frabill has a much more solid construction and does not shake much in the wind, never blown over. The poles are obviosly superior just by looking at them. Also i ordered a bunch of frabill tip-ups from cabelas and 2 of the wingnuts were stripped and wouldnt tighten. I emailed the company and the next day they sent me an email apologizing and asking me for a copy of my receipt, which i sent them, and they sent me 2 brand new tip-ups. NOW THATS SERVICE. I will be a frabill customer for life, unless their quality control turns to that of the clam corporation. I mean who rembers why schlitz beer went out of business? I think clam is heading down that same road. I feel bad that Dave Genz and Jason Mitchell are associated with their name.

Also I have never heard anything bad (only great) about otter shanties, i just dont like the ugly (IMO) camo patterns...

  3. Sandy pond had plenty of ice last weekend, its been cold this week during the nights so doubt it lost too much. Watch/pay attention to the big white crop circles on/in the ice they are about 30-40 around, sandy has a bunch of gas pockets and plenty of people go through them each year. Lake O is low, thus so is sandy, the channel is alway been shallow this year is really bad, there arent "as many" perch there so for an eventful day bring tip ups and enough pike bait to get you started. I use dink perch and sunnies after that. Good luck, not too far of a drive, worth a shot.

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

    ====================

Slow day. Started in 120 FOW working out NW to deeper water. About 1/2 hour in had a big hit on a dipsy, drag was just tight enough and fish took drag, slammed rod into the rigger and then the leader broke, guessing it was a nice fish, note to self use a heavier leader...lol. Continued out got out to about 180 when rigger popped. Thought it was a false trip but reeled fast and there he was. Took off and took over half my spool. About half an hour later we got this fish. My biggest fish out of ontario yet. For the 2 1/2 hours we were out it was a good day.

  5. I have a lowrance M68C GPS chartplotter and Fishfinder. Also works great for ice fishing, better than a vexilar and it has gps. Comes with boat ducer, ice ducer and speed sensor. Im not sure of your price range but the lowest i could take is $250, which is quite reasonable. Its a really nice unit, but I upgraded to a HDS. If youre going to fish ontario get a GPS, they are a must.

  6. Up for sale is for 82 J plugs and 1 Flat fish that works off the same hook set up. Also included is a bunch of hooks (I didnt count them but I'd say there are over 50). They come in a variety of colors, what you see is what you get. Quite a few of these have a chamber in the rear to hold light stick. 4 are brand new in the package. There are also some older (like new) wooden plugs, these may be collectable. Some have been used and abused, but most are new to like new. Looking to get $160 shipped. Feel free to ask questions. Shipping to US only. Can also meet at the launch in Mexico and will knock some of the price off.

Here are a couple more pics. As you can see in the pics, its a little sun faded but runs like new. The inside of the boat is nice. Had some vinyl replaced and the teak restored. Keep in mind this boat is 20 years old, do not expect everything to be perfect. The motor runs perfect, no issues. I fished this boat a lot last season and never had any issues. It handled 8 ft waves (on the way back in at 4 mph... it was a long ride back), fishes 4 ft waves no problem and its great for lake ontario.

  8. Great fishing boat up for sale. Its a 1986 23 foot Imperial fiberglass cuddy similar to a Trophy. Has a Mercruiser big 4 170 engine that runs like new. Had a complete tune-up at the end of last season new plugs, new wires, new distributor, and a carb rebuild and service by Mikes Marina. Boat is great on gas, can troll all day for $20. Boat isnt slow, goes around 35 mph. And its a great Lake Ontario or Oneida boat.

List of stuff to go with boat:

    Lowrance HDS5 with Lake Insight

Auto pilot (a little older but works)

    Life jackets

    Has stainless adjustable rod holders.

Has 4 Cannon MAG10 riggers with swivel bases.

2 Brand new Pro Angler drift socks with floats and weight.

Nice trailer- worth $1500-$2000 alone, tires are like new.

I can work a little on the price depending on what you want with the boat. I also have a wide array of fishing gear that can be included for an additional price like a Fish Hawk X4 speed and temp probe, rods, reels, and tackle.

Great boat just too much for me to load and unload and fish by myself. Open to trades let me know what you have. Can send more pics upon request.

    Asking $5000
