  1. I guess this wasnt the place for it. Thought a hot topic like the Ray Rice thing might generate more response but i guess nobody wants to touch it here. Ill keep it strictly fishing in the future.

Old man... The Steelers have some classy guys and some not so classy guys just like any other team i guess. I think the Steelers used to be a little more selective based on a players character but i dont think that happens much anymore. Far from domestic abuse, but just a couple weeks ago our two starting running backs got busted smoking pot in their car on the way to the airport to board a plane for a pre-season game. Come on... Cant believe some of these guys cant use a little more common sense to keep making their millions.

  2. I'm not sure this is the place for this, but saw this video of the Steelers, Brett Keisel, today and was touched.  Figured I'd share it with some fellow fisherman.  I know we all like fishing and most of us are probably football fans too.

So you have guys like Ray Rice that beat their wives and guys like Brett Keisel (Da Beard) that take patients from Children's Hospital fishing.  Nice to see the good things too.  Also, not intending for this to be racial at all.

  3. Muskiedreams makes a good point about specific applications which I kind of referenced. I'm guessing he is referring to fishing the Niagara River and can see his point for sure.  That is not a place I fish or application I need to worry about.  I check the fluoro leaders I use for trolling often for abrasion, and I rarely contact bottom most places I muskie fish. Some get retied/replaced after one fish.  Others can last me a few weekends before I change them....just keep an eye on them.

Speaking of different or specific applications as they relate to leaders...I have been fishing the Georgian Bay in the fall some the past few years.  We do quite a bit of bottom contact with our trolled cranks there. It didn't take me many shoals to figure out that the best line/leader there is monel wire line and no leader.

  4. People just don't understand predator/prey relationships and the overall ecosystem of the lake.  This guy, like many, uneducated anglers thinks the muskies are eating all his bass, perch, walleye, whatever.  There are a ridiculous amount of muskies naturally occurring in LSC...it's really almost stupid.  However, LSC continues to be one of the best small mouth bass fisheries in the country and the walleye fishing in the Detroit River (this was filmed at the mouth of the Detroit River) is fantastic as well.  There are plenty of studies out there on muskies preferred forage and it isn't bass and walleyes.  I'm willing to bet most of the muskies in LSC are eating shad and perch, in that order.

Regardless of what this guy thinks, what he did is inexcusable.  Even if the fish was the required 44" to keep on LSC, it still doesn't give him the right to waste the fish.  I think the Canadians are pretty serious about protecting their fisheries and I bet this guy gets prosecuted.  I saw a post elsewhere from someone else that knows who he is and said he poaches hunting also.

  5. I'd lose the silver things and the red beads an you should be good to go.  I personally wouldn't want that extra stuff on there. I use 80lb fluoro for trolling leaders and just tie them, but your crimps are fine as long as they are solid/hold well. For actual jerkbaits and gliders, most prefer a solid wire leader...you get better bait action.

I know guys that still use black, plastic coated, steel leaders and they catch muskies.  I used to catch muskies on those types of leaders.  So, I guess my point is most muskies are not line/leader shy.  However, years back I switched to fluoro leaders on clear water like St Clair and have never switched back to steel for most applications.

  6. Surprised to hear you say Pigeon...your fish look heavier than a typical Kawartha's muskies.  Nice ones.  I used to fish the Kawarthas a couple times a year (June and Sept).  I've fished Pigeon, Buckhorn (upper and lower), Chemong, Sturgeon, and Cameron.  Gave up the Kawartha's years back after I started fishing LSC for my week trip in the summer.

Where's your trailer at?  I know John at Green Acres pretty well. Have also stayed at Camp Ashtabula on Pigeon.  Rob and Donna are very nice people.

Sorry I'm not any help with the Salmon...I haven't fished for them at all this year.  I'm sure there are matures inside 100 fow right now though.

  7. Years ago, my buddy caught a low 30"s female muskie at Pymatuning, PA.  He took her home in his livewell and put her in his pond.  He named her Flo and she is now mid 40"s.  He has quite a few videos of her just hanging out and feeding like this.  She seems somewhat tame or conditioned at least.  I convinced him to send me a video to share online, because I liked it so much and I'm sue most have never seen video like this.  Check out her closing speed.  She's awesome.  Those bluegills don't stand a chance.  We can't troll or crank fast enough.  (I hope the link to the video works here...my first attempt at this)

  8. Just use a connection bar with spring loaded ball and socket joints at the front of the motors (not the back of the motors).  The hydraulic steering shouldn't affect it at all.  Our Lund has a Verado that comes with hydraulic steering standard, but the connection is from motor to motor, not to the steering.  We also use a Honda kicker.  I can lift either motor while the steering bar is still connected.  I will try to post a picture if i can get the app on my phone to work.  The app has been problematic for me the past couple days.

  9. Was it your leader or main line that broke? I'm guessing you are using mono and not braid for your main line.

I've been tying my own trolling leaders out of 80lb floro for the last eight years or so for most of my applications. Knock on wood; I've never had a bite off. I always used steel before that and still use solid wire leasers for jerks when casting, but the floro has been great for me.

There is a nasty snag a little south of Prendergast in about 28 fow. I've lost a couple lures to it. You can also snag anchor ropes anywhere. Not saying it wasn't a fish but you'll probably never know.

  10. Yep...it's getting to be that time and things may even start a little earlier this year with the way the weather and temps have been. I'm excited for my couple fall trips in search of giants, but this time of year also reminds me that soon my season will be winding down. I'll be up to your area in November. Good luck and stick one of those big hooks you mark... I know what you mean.
