  1. Nice work CBand.  I thought that was you Saturday, but wasn't sure because of the different boat.  Thanks for giving us some space on that fish, and sorry to have to stop in front of you like that.  We had a decent day Saturday, boating 4 of 5.  My buddy and I also got our kids out for a couple muskies Monday of the opening weekend. Nice pics with your girls.

Overall, I think the fishing has been a bit slow numbers wise since the opener, but there have been some nice mid to upper 40" fish caught. We have also been getting more fish north than south so far. Lots of bait suspended high in the water. Even saw perch schools boiling the surface of the water a few times this weekend. Floating pond weed is bad in spots and water temps are around mid 60s. North end water is clear but the south end is pretty stained with algae already.

Good luck with your tournament guys.

  2. I would have no problem with that personally Zach. However, the owner of the campground (Rich) charges for guests. You will have to talk with him and I'm guessing he would probably require you to get your own site. I'd have you put your tent up in my lot but Rich would have an issue with me if I did that. Hes a pretty cool guy but its very much a business for him.

  3. Ok. I think I told I bought a place at Prendergast last fall. I'm now Tad's neighbor. Not many tent campers there anymore (mostly all seasonal trailers), but if you get in there, I'll probably see you. We will be there Fri night and fish Sat, Sun, and part of Mon. You should try to make it Sunday night and hang out around the fire. There will probably be quite a few of us muskies guys there that weekend.

  4. I'd pick a different lake personally. Conneaut hasn't ever been very good for muskies imo. I havent fished it much though. Got one to win a tournament in November there a long time ago.

But, if you are trolling id try short lining shallow to start and then try a little deeper along the break. There should be nice weeds starting and theres some cool structure there for a small lake. Id focus on both ends and the west side. Theres also a hump kind of mid lake but thats probably more of a summer spot.

  5. Nice Muskies Fishmounter. I really like your scale detail and paint work on the patterns of the fish.  Very realistic looking.  It seems muskie patterns can be pretty difficult to successfully duplicate.  A tiger muskie would probably be a big challenge.  I looked around on your website last week and didn't see any other examples of muskies you have done.  You also asked for feedback on the other muskie mount you did of the Susquehanna fish.  (Actually now that i look again you didnt ask for feedback. I thought you did) Are you newer to doing muskie mounts?  I saw lots of bass and trout.

Just some constructive criticism from an avid muskie fisherman who has handled and released over a couple thousand of these fish...I like the eyes and teeth better on the Oswego fish than the Susquehanna fish.  Less yellow on the eye and teeth appear to be a more accurate size and number on this mount. Don't make the teeth too big or make too many of them. There is also usually one tooth that is wider than the others (almost like a molar).  The only other thing I think you can improve upon at this point is your paint for the fins.  While the white outline on the fins looks great, I don't think that's an accurate representation of a muskies fins. Most of the fish I've handled or have pictures of do not have white outline around the pectoral, pelvic, or dorsal fins.  Those are usually the redish color (or whatever base color) all the way to the edges of the fins. Now, there may be a little whitish edge on the front of the anal fin and/or the bottom of the caudal fin. With that being said, muskies from different water bodies can look very different, so none of them are the same.

I hope you don't take offense to my comments.  I'm just trying to provide some feedback and hopefully help you make your replicas look as real as possible for your customers.

  6. I'm taking my son to Mille Lacs lake in Minnesota the 3rd week of July for a few days of musky fishy. Can't wait!

That's great. Mille Lacs has some giants. Are you familiar with the lake? The way I understand it...was stocked with muskies and exploded with 50"+ fish like alot of other MN lakes several years back. Now that stocking has stopped and the lake relies on natural reproduction, it is a pretty low density fishery. Thats good for giants though. They still get 50 pounders there every fall. Are you fishing with a guide?
