  1. Not sure if this should be in tackle section or here, but my question is......

I'm wondering if you could recommend a decent trolling rod for walleye and stick baits.  Planer boards would be used and occasionally a torpedo weight.  But mainly stick baits 8-30' fow.  Been looking at Okuma Pro series....I'm thinking 7'10" to 8'6"?  M or ML???  What reel....Diawa 27 or 47?  Willing to use straight mono or braid...I have my lead core reels already.  Penns?  On mostly Otisco, Onieda, Owasco.  Trying to keep affordable....got any?  PM me...I'll keep checking classifieds.

  2. LOL, it's usually someone looking for a new honey hole....so for the honest man looking to take out the youngin it's tough to not give up info.  Usually generic info is close enough...no need to give up gps coordinates.

  3. i have 7 color on my rods and backing. When I let it out, I allow all lead to go and then about 50 foot of backing....good success. Now I'm thinking of getting 10 colors. But not new rods and reels. Just taking off old lead.

So, the question is....If I only want to use 6 or 7 or 8 colors out of the 10, can I? Told you it's probably a dumb question. But I was under the impression I needed to send backing out to allow the lead to get down. Suggestions?

  4. This is a general, and to most of you, and novice question...but I'm using OS planer boards with toggle flags.  My front release is a OR 18...back one an OR 16 (I believe).  Which clip should I be having release?  I have the line on the front under the pin so the board won't come off during retrieval.  Then I pop it up to take off the board.  Is this the one I want to stay attached to the board?

  5. I'm going to Canada this summer and need help for catching pike.  I'm bringing spoons and need help with:

Size of spoons? (3" 4"...I got some from Cabelas that look HUGE...1 1/4 oz about 5" long..are they jigging spoons or casting)

Should I tie directly on to spoon or barrel snap?

Some I've ordered have no "O" ring...add one?

I will definitely bring red and whites....other colors...yellow/ 5 diamonds?

    How about Mepps #5 dressed?

    Thanks guys

  6. I need deck (wood) replacement and transom wood replaced on a 1972 (I think) 17'starcraft aluminum boat.  I live in Binghamton NY 13901 area code.  Could be a winter project for someone handier than myself.  The transom work I would think would be the toughest part because I think it may require removing rivots?  Not sure though.  I will obviously send pictures and if possible bring to or have visit.  Interested, no someone, somewhere or suggestions would be great.  Thanks

  7. I want to get a light action rod for downrigging the fingers.  Most of the rods I'm looking at (Shimano tdr/ Okuma classic pro GLT) are rated #10 -  #20.  Can I put #30 Flea flicker on these rod or will they not handle it.

Also, what do you guys think about these rods?  Or should I go with the Shakespear Ugly Stx trollers...just a little more coin.  I'm a newbie to the down riggin scene.  I bought 2 Okuma convector 45 line counters...hope they're not too big...Finger lakes mostly.  Any help would be great, thanks

  8. Will be hitting Onieda this week for first time with an early morning run into mid morning with my son (Birthday boy 10yrs old, double digits)...eyes.  Any help would be great.  Where and what...not gps coordinates, just general (fow).  PM me if that's better...I really appreciate it.  Thanks

  9. Just started downrigging and need help selecting rod and reels.  Here's what I have and will be doing:

Have 2 Okuma convector 45 line counters...have #30 Flea flicker line on one of them (been told fleas get bad in Finger Lake)  That is where I'll be doing majority of down rigging.  Targeting Lakers, Browns and Salmon and of course some Walleyes.  Occasional Otisco Tigers.

Have #10 balls...Small Scotty down riggers (2)  Need more weights...only have one, barrowing another.

Looking to get two rods for the convectors....to down rig troll.  Options I'm looking at:  Shimono TDR trolling rods or Okuma Classic Pro GLT trolling rods.  I'm concerned that the 8'6" are going to be too stiff in a med. or med/heavy.  But I have the #30 flea flicker for fleas?  Most of the Medium light rods are rated for #10-#20.

    Help, thoughts?  Thanks, Slamminsam

  10. Help me find a fishing boat.  I'm looking for a deep -v to troll the finger lakes.  Used boat in good to great shape.  Motor needs to be turn key...4 stroke is perfered but 2-stroke is a possibility.  If you have or know of one...I'm listening.  I'm in the Binghamton NY area, but will come look and buy if it fits the bill....Down riggers, gps, ff, trolling motor, outboard, are some of the features I'm looking for.  Sorry so specific, didn't want to waiste your time.

  11. Hello fellow anglers......my first time visiting and posting.  I post on other fishing sites (my fishfinder, ice shanty, etc.) and was introduced to this site.  I look forward to sharing and reading some great advice from you, the pro's. Good luck, be safe and tight lines.
