bought a pfluger president for my wife for Christmas will let you know how we do with it. Im hoping the shimano stradic is more durable as I will be doing lots of casting in lakes and ponds and using it on the big rivers during cold weather. its drags are waterproof and the shimano stradic is salt water ready. 2 big pluses for me.

its funny you said cleo's that is what i used to use until a freind let me use a 3/8 ounce kroc silver prism for lake trout . we were casting off shore in early spring and there were 8 others there. that krocodile outfished the other 8 fisherman 3 to 1 and my 2nd laker was a nice 10 lber. been hooked ever since. they really work great at night also for browns and salmon. my problem is i cant find my rainbow colors in the plain finish with the tannest back. all them now are holographic that seem to be to shiney on certain days.

mackeral a thing of the past on the mid atlantic? i use them for years here on champlain and they are great for lakers browns salmon and even bass. so when i go to pulaski next month i will spin cast them off the selkirk wall for browns. might have to change my favorite rainbow color but have many more available. the silver prism works really well for lakers her so im going to try them out there also. with the 5 to 7 ounce krocs do you just jig with them?

i assume your using the 1 ounce for jigging for stripers. have you tried the mackeral krocs at all? been wondering about them since i have 2 or 3

has anyone out there seen any 1/4 oz or 1/2 ounce krocs in the rainbow color with the flat finish (tan or an off white) on the bottom anywhere ? all im seeing now is the holographics krocs for sale now. i would like to buy some of those with the plain finish on them. would appreciate some info if you know where i can buy some.

it depends on where you live. in small rural towns there isnt much to shop with and even buying your nightcrawlers are hard to find. if you live in a good size poplulation and near lakes yes its possible to shop locally. i try to shop locally ist then if i cant i reach out to ebay etc.example some of us like to use wax worms and on several occasions here locally i couldnt get them in the past or now.both bait shops cant get them for me? so i either get them at wal mart which bothers me or i have to order online . i have several freinds in dfferent towns are running across the same thing.

i also have been doing business with cabelas for years. ordered some nice jackets for my daughter-in-law and granddaughter for christmas when they opened them up christmas morning to our surprise my daughter-in-laws jacket had a big burn mark on the chest. how could not someone notice this. sent it back with no problems and got a refund. i just bought a new salmon steelhead rod from them also and i havent used it yet but has a 5 year fenwick warranty. i do local as much as i can but something like this wouldnt be able to get here from our bait and tackle stores.

sounds like your a frostbiter also. tough conditions and we need a tough reel. my fenwick rod and the reel will be used exclusivly in early spring fall and winter mostly in rivers and off shore lake fishing where its ice free. i have checked my reels that i have bought in the past few years still in boxes and i have a cabelas verona also a cabelas tournament and my wife has a pflueger president that i bought for her a few years ago so it looks like im going to go with the shimano stradic just for this rod since i will be using mostly during frostbite season.
