This from the NYS boaters guide. It's what I always went by.

Thats a good point! So is this though:

    Boaters CODE OF ETHICS

    1. I will respect the rights of all users of the recreational waterways, both on public waters and on adjacent private property.

    2. I will be considerate at the launch ramps and docks. I will get on and off the ramps quickly and not delay others.

    3. I will follow the navigation rules of the road around all other vessels. I will learn and observe my state’s rules on wake jumping.

    4. I will give all fishing, anchored, or drifting vessels plenty of room.

    5. I will always operate at headway speed in "no wake" zones.

    6. When approaching the shore, I will be especially aware of swimmers and other craft near the shore.
    7. I will not disturb wildlife. I will avoid areas posted for the protection of wildlife.
    8. I will not litter the shore side and I will be careful with my fuel.
    9. I realize that my travel speed should be determined by my equipment, ability, weather and wave conditions, and especially other vessel traffic. In case of emergency, I will volunteer assistance.
    10. I will not interfere with or harass others. I realize that people judge all personal watercraft by my actions.
    11. I will pay close attention to the noise my vessel may make and be aware of how others on boats and on shore react to that noise.

In reality the original post is (in my opinion) reflecting on the manner in which he was treated in regards to this encounter. The operator of the sailing vessel was not using proper etiquette while operating his radio and shouting demands that were not directed at any one vessel specifically. This causes confusion and possibly could result in an accident.

  2. We wrap ours in towels and store them in our live well (we use it for storage). Our Dock lines are stored there as well. But then again we don't have a ton of storage on a center console boat. We get by though with the space we have. Just have to be a little creative.

  3. My wife and I trolled it. Marked a lot of fish and some bait. The only problem is the patches and lines of surface weeds. Our dipsy divers were full of them and our down riggers were blown back farther than we wanted. We decided to pack it in and travel the canal back to cayuga where we were successful the day before. Good luck!

  4. Fished yesterday never seen so many trolling rigs on that lake must of been 40 boats around deans.the lake is going to get a lot of pressure this year because of how Seneca is so I'm going to ask that people try not to plow up the spots they fish with a ton of post please

Hello, could you elaborate on this subject please. Thanks

Thanks for the advice, going to be camping and fishing Cayuga this weekend so will give it a go. New to fishing from a boat so this is a learning curve for me. Our current set up is a good start in my opinion based on what others recommended. The boat is only 17 feet and is a deep V center console with a 2007 mercury 60hp bigfoot and a 4hp 4 stroke kicker for trolling (a little on the shaky side but it maintains speed well after its set) We have two Cannon uni troll 10 STX down riggers and a 10lb ball and a 8lb.  The only knowledge we have of using these is what I have read online and talking with others. I apologize if I have any questions that would seem like fairly common knowledge but were still learning and appreciate the help. One more question however regarding the kicker: What it be better to upgrade eventually to a two cylinder model to reduce the vibration and is it worth the extra cost? We don't have a ton of room on the back.  Right now the 4hp has been extremely fuel efficient and reliable (a new engine so that is not surprising). Thanks!
