Very good point, I do remember the very annoying noise from a wheel mounted unit that a charter captin had a while back. Does anybody know if the newer steering wheel autopilots are quieter than a weed wacker? Thx

All great ideas, and I really appreciate the input. I guess what I'm trying to find is a less expensive autopilot. Like a steering wheel control unit or something under $1000 for the entire system. I don't use a kicker, troll plate works fine for me. Thanks again

For salmon fishing? 8 hours of 2.5 sounds hard on the batteries. It would have to be a very long shaft also, bow sits 3' plus out of the water. Then you have waves and wind to deal with. Thanks for the input, just not sure bow mount is going to work on this boat.

With navionics gold? I think you are looking at non gps units. This one is 599 at several stores online, without navionics gold chip. The chip is 150 alone. No big deal thanks for the reply though. Good luck fishing Lady O this year!

I have 2 cannon mag 10 downriggers, with 4' stainless steel booms. They work as advertised, just not fast enough for me. I just bought 2 new cannon Mag stx's to replace these ones.
