When I go down to the Carolinas and fish off the surf I use the fish finder rig.
Basically a 2-3oz pyramid sinker on a slide attached to your main line then a leader with a circle hook.
Use live bait and when you cast you free spool it so the baitfish can swim around and find the fish for ya. I’ve never fished the ocean that far north but would imagine it would work fine.
I tie a 24-36” 50lb mono leader and use 5/0-6/0 circle hooks. And the sinker slides you should be able to pick up at a bait shop.
Trick is to get the rig out past the break of the waves and hang on hope this will do some good for ya and good luck!

5/0 hooks are my favorite, the problem with store bought hooks, is the wire is to thick
when your a hundred foot deep the thickness of the wire makes a huge difference on them thick jawbones
you used to be able to buy them from hermit on here, not sure if he still sells them or not
if you're ever near dryden NY i can give you a few to get you started
Yeah the ones I have came from ebay. I believe they are hand poured but the hooks are pretty thick. I’m actually from Cortland and would be happy to purchase a few. Will be on vacation for the next week and a half but will shoot you a pm when I get back. Thanks again!

Looking to get into the art of laker jigging. I got myself some 3/4 and 1oz jig heads but they have 4/0 and 5/0 hooks seems a little big to me. So main thing are they too big? And if so what are some good jig heads I can pick up? Thanks for the advice guys!

A good starting point is the Boy Scout camp on the east side of lake it’s just north of the yellow cottage with the giant red rooster on their porch(you can’t miss it) that time of the year fish can be found throughout the column anywhere from 70ft out to 140. I’ve always found a variety of Lakers browns and rainbows in that area. Hope this helps

I know this will sound weird but I have seen people on Owasco put floats on them and tow them down the lake staying in the shallows. If you could find somewhere not so steep that could be an option

Me and my uncle chased this buck all year. Glad to see he got him. He was a 13 but broke off a point sometime in the last month.

How much for the ozone generator? I looked into that as well, but the generators were quite expensive.

Fished there Saturday kind of slow but south wind was pumping pretty good. Went 4/4 Lakers all on FF. Caught them between 50-70 FOW over 80-120. Picked up 3 at the boy scout camp and the last one right off casowasco point.

While I don't have any of the three motors my uncle runs a 2017 evinrude etec 90 Hp and that thing is sweet. Its super quiet, fast, starts up on first key turn. To date he has had zero issues with it and he loves it. Went from a merc 4 stroke back to the 2 stroke and said best decision hes ever made. Again Idk much about them but I do know I couldn't believe how quiet and quick it was.

Only way to know is to go try it. Don't be afraid to change things up until you get a good bite. Then just stay on em. Lots of trial and error and learning in this sport.

wish I knew how to tie a harness, I might buy it
Tying up worm harnesses is super easy once you get the hang of it. All I use is a fly tying vise with #4 and #6 live bait hooks. Tie with a smell knot...youtube has a good smell knot video
