  1. I’m looking to add a couple of lead line rod/reels to my boat this year and am wondering if Penn Fathom II 30 will hold enough lead line and backing?  I think I’d like the 50’s but they don’t seem available, f in Covid I’m sure. Thanks.

  2. Tried to launch at Taughannock, dock a foot underwater, ran to Deans and dock inches underwater. Launched, and ran to east side, marked fish throughout water column but no takers, Trolled for couple hours. Ran back to west side and found marks, set up and got into Lakers on both riggers and wire dipsy diver, SD fly. Green, white, black spoons was what worked. Had one double with old college brothers. Good time had by all.

  3. Hoping to go out on Cayuga for the first time in a lot of years. Planning on launching at Union Springs. Are the fleas bad? Any reports or advice that are helpful out of that port? We are all set up with riggers, core and copper. We also have gambler rigs etc for lakers if needed. Thanks all!

Launched out of deans yesterday, 7/30, it was windy. The fleas were not an issue at all, caught couple of lakers and rainbows, all on riggers. Dipsy with flasher fly’s did not hit once

  4. Went out of Deans point late morning, got one right away and then not much. Wife was saying it’s too cold, too windy, too... then she reels in a 32”, 10.5# laker. Made the weekend. Fish were suspended on west side, 40-60 feet down. Caught on downrigger with bare spoon. IMG_2995.JPG

  5. For non starting batteries, running motor guide 36v and two Scotty downriggers I’m looking at upgrading to VMAXTANK batteries that claim around 240 reserve charge, which is about 80% longer than my current bank and by far the highest RC i have found. Does anyone have experience with this brand?

  6. I’ve spent 2020 getting back into trolling the finger lakes with my wife. Had mostly fun, caught some lakers but never really slammed anything. Trolling with downrigger s on Seneca -0, keuka 12, Cayuga 1. All lakers off of downriggers with spoons.  I’m going to buy a fishhawk this winter which I think will help a bit and likely launch at Deans. My question is why are dipseys different than downriggers?  Is it the fact that the lure is way behind the boat so less noise above or something else?  I’m also thinking of going 80# braid vs wire based on other comments, any strong reason not to? Any other advice to offer?  Thanks

  7. I was Marking fish and the fish finder was showing I was running my rigs thru them. It was GPS speed.  I am using 20# Seager leader on anything i tied up.  The one cowbell I ran was on the deeper rig w a popcorn, probably at 60-50 ft then 10-15 ft above that. We wasted time running up down and across the lake looking for weed free-Ish runs and did eventually find some but when we did something w the presentation didn’t entice a bite. I’m traveling thru Pulaski tomorrow and may swing into fat Nancy to see what other things they may recommend, will probably try one morning this weekend again, would just love to get the first fish in the boat.

  8. Hi, I'm very new to trolling for trout on Seneca and would appreciate ANY advice you have.  I'm running one downrigger (Marina hasn't secured a second downrigger mount).  I went out with this last Sunday out of Severn and the wife and I were on the water at 0630.  Water was pretty rough and we ran to the east side which wasn't much better.  There was a lot of weeds floating around and did not mark a lot of fish trolled for an hour or so with nothing happening.  We crossed back to the west side and went up around the point where we found some calmer water but marked nothing.  Went back around the point and trolled for a couple of hours, marked some fish and put the rigs right thru them but no hits.  I was running spoons and then changed to a large cowbell with a popcorn on it and a spoon.  Varied speed between 1.6 - 2.0, targeting 1.8mph.  Fish I did mark were at 40fow.  Just looking for anything to help increase odd of putting a fish in the new boat.  Thanks!
