  3. From the Smithsonian:

Coywolves are Taking Over Eastern North America Coywolves are not 'shy wolves'—they are coyote-wolf hybrids (with some dog mixed in) and now number in the millions

People living in Eastern Canada and U.S. are probably familiar with the smart, adaptable wild canine that lives in their forests, neighborhood parks and even cities. What they may not know is that eastern coyotes aren’t true coyotes at all. They might better be known as hybrids, or coywolves.

  4. Possible coywolf, a crossbreed from Canada, very common in the Eastern US now.  There is a very good PBS special available online about their life in and around Eastern US cities...very adaptable animals.

Here's a pic from my street in North Greece this fall.... no fear of humans as he wandered the neighborhood.

  5. I did something like that  this spring with my Scotty's. Made plates to go between the swivel base and the riggers out of 3/8" thick aluminum. I cut the curvy shapes  with a jig saw.... it takes a while, but I got exactly what i wanted, and mounted a Trax-Tech single rod holder on them.  I made templates out of some heavy cardboard first to get the shapes right. .

  6. I fish from a 17 footer, and netting a fish with a long dipsy lead can be a problem. I use Slide Divers instead of Dipsys, allows me to vary the leader length, and makes netting a fish much easier. I have found that shorter rods also help on a smaller boat.

You can make this sport as expensive or as reasonable as you want, my diver rods are 7 1/2 foot musky rods from Bass Pro @ $25 each. I use Diawa line counter reels and have never had a problem with them. Invest in good rod holders - no plastic!

For the rest of the fall season, you can run J-plugs on the surface from top lines around the harbors and inlets, no divers or riggers needed.  Something in a green glo pattern will be your best bet.

Please fill out your profile with more info. If we knew where you were located, and which port you were fishing from, we could offer some ideas for that  area of the lake.

    Good Luck !

  7. + 1 with Cheers.

We did a charter out of the Oak a few years back to learn how to catch staging kings in late fall. All fish came on J-Plugs run on top lines, and riggers 3-5 feet down.  Green glo, black ladder back took most of the hits. Capt. John said the agressive fish will be moving near the surface, the negative, moody kings on the bottom will be much harder to trigger a strike.
