  1. you can't go wrong with either unit, they are both using the same technology (Moor's by the way) so it all boils down to personal preference on the digital vs analog display. I have the depth raider and have no trouble seeing the display from the back of the boat (I DO have a hardtop). I've fished on a number of boats with the Sub Troll and it works great as well. I just prefer the digital display so I got the DR.

One nice thing about the Sub Troll is that Moor is located in Buffalo, so they are local and from everything I've heard, Hank and the guys are great to deal with. Kell Labs is in Michigan.

  2. Is it a single 4 banger? I've seen 240 fishermen with twin 4 cyl I/O's I can't believe they's put a single 4 in that size boat.

Mine is a 230 hp 305 merc and I wouldn't go any smaller. I top out at around 32 mph sog, but before I added the trim tabs, I pretty much had to be wide open to get it to plane out.

  3. Yank - Nice fish. Only got to 67, huh??? Guess it’s time to look for a new power plant for the shingle or maybe make Jax take a lighter rod next time. (playing)

Ray - You read it the same way I did. But I'll give him slack as he's new to the board.

NF – If you want a real great location to explore, go to coordinates: 77-35-53W by 43-15-44N, one long leap to the East; then cast NNW. I guarantee you'll be wetting your net.

I don't know about that. I read it the same way as well. absolutely no info in the profile. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if that is someone already on the board that ran a new registration so they could run their mouth (keyboard) anonymously. Sorry, I see a post full of whining sarcasm, NOT an enthusiastic newbe.

well that's my $0.02 on it anyways

  4. OLCOTT PEN PUT-IN SATURDAY APRIL 19th AT 8:00 AM AT THE NEWFANE TOWN MARINA IN OLCOTT

Mark your calendar for another fun Saturday putting the salmon and steelhead pens together and in the water. (hopefully brought to you snow free this year)

Due to drought and other conditions, the Chinook salmon egg harvest fell way short at the Salmon River Hatchery last fall. The DEC, LOTSA, Niagara County sportsmen, Charter Captains, Slippery Sinker and the town of Newfane along with their Fisherman's Park staff worked to help out with an emergency egg collection at eighteen mile creek. This effort showed the viability of emergency egg collection at eighteen mile and thus eighteen mile was designated a "back-up brood stock stream" by the DEC. This designation helped us to receive a larger percentage of our normal Chinook stocking than most stocking sites in this year of reduced stocking.

This year we will be raising 67,100 Chinook and our usual 3,500 steelhead. This is an increase of 17,100 Chinook in our pens.

With this increase we will need all four of our pens adding 25% to our work load. So we need all the help we can get for Saturdays crew.

Please come to help and bring a friend or two. All who have helped in the past know we have a good time and it is a great chance to meet some new friends from the community.

Don't forget to bring your wire cutters for snipping tie wraps.

We think we have found a place on the water for our after-work "pizza party" when we are done.

Look forward to seeing you there on the 19th and thanks for the support.

  5. On Thursday April 10th at 7pm the Lake Ontario Trout &

Salmon Association (LOTSA) will be sponsoring their

first fishing seminar of the year. This seminar will

be given by Captain Marlowe Beis on Spoon Fishing

Advanced Techniques. Captain Marlowe is a very

experienced Captain with over 25 years experience

fishing for Salmonids on Lake Ontario. His

presentation will focus on tuning your spoon program

to be most effective in the clear waters and currents

of the Western Basin of Lake Ontario.

LOTSA is a group of mainly weekend recreational

fishermen who are dedicated to the enhancement of the

Lake Ontario Sport-Fishery including the pen rearing

project at Olcott. Each meeting also features a

sharing of information the current fishing conditions.

So come join us and become more successful at fishing

    Lake Ontario!

The seminar will be held at the Cornell Cooperative

Extension, 4487 Lake Avenue (Route 78 two miles north

of Lockport), Lockport, NY 14094. The seminar is open

to the public with a $5 charge for non-members. Call

    636-0519 with any questions.

  6. I have the 24' Thompson HT Adam was talking about (1986 Model 252 HT, pretty much the predecessor of the 240 Fisherman). Great boat to fish out of. I like the fact that the gunwales are so high that unless you're Wilt Chamberlain, you HAVE to have a bucket to pee

As other said, get a survey. I didn't and lost the entire summer of 2003 having the stringers, transom, motor bunks and floor replaced. On a good note, the boat is now better constructed than it was when it left St Charles Michigan in 1985.

I have the 230 HP 5.0 Merc in it. I think it is a little underpowered for the weight of the boat, but I'm not trying to win any races with it. How slow it trolls down to is more important to me.

If the boat you are looking at doesn't have trim tabs, get them, these boats really need em, the difference the tabs made on mine was nothing short of miraculous.

    Here's mine

  7. i noticed the lack of action too, scott. i would love to know what the leader lengths are. alot more lookers than takers too so it makes you wonder whats really going on behind the boat?

I was noticing that too. As Gill mentioned, a lot of those were cut bait rigs. What it looks like is that that video is a lesson on having your meat properly tuned. If you notice, the ones that fish came up to and rejected, didn't quite have the correct roll, the ones that did, got bit right away, or at least the fish took several swipes at it before getting hooked.

  8. Who on this site fishes out of Olcott?

    Shade,

Olcott is my home port. I have a seasonal slip there as well. Us LOTSA guys usually hang out on channel 9 or 10, but I typically also have 68 and 72 in the scan unless the chatter gets too annoying.

Boat's name is FishStyx, 24' Thompson Hardtop. Im in slip 10 on "D" dock (the last one almost under the bridge).

  9. Hey tim just brought the boat home from storage!! I am going to spend tommarrow morning getting it ready and reloading it! I am going to get the measurements for the new steering cable, and try and get it ordered within the week $$ depending. Give me a call or a number where I can give you a ring,

    you have a PM.

  10. The problem is, if you aren't full and run your card though a second time right away, that flags a potential risky transaction with the credit card company. More than once I've gotten a call a short while later from the cards security people making sure it was a legitimate charge. Nice to know they are keeping track, but really a needless PITA. If the transaction is pre authorized , why should the station care what the total charge is.

  11. Well FishStyx actually started as an idea i had for a graphic on the boat. Pictuer this:

A viking longboat with the grim reaper up in the bow, a skeleton/demon poling the boat down the river Styx and two guys fishing off the back of the boat on their way to purgatory/hell.

One of these years I might even get around to having it airbrushed on.
