Don't give up on the smelt in Cayuga Lake. There was a run of smelt last year it was small but they might be coming back a little at a time. We did catch rainbows when we targeted them last year. They were not big but they looked healthy.

Very nice ride scott. You can't hide in that boat, everybody will see where you are fishing!!! Stop in when you bring it up i want a tour of it.

the way i read that is as soon as he unsnaps the "fixed slider" and fights the fish by hand he has created another line. that could put you one line over the limit of 2 per person.

andy, i have used the bigger scotty releases and they are easy to learn. there is a black line on them, for ontario put the mono on the back side of the black line. for cayuga put it on the front side of the line.the cable releases clip on your rigger cable, great for running 2 rods off of 1 rigger. the ball releases attach to your rigger weight. i can't help you with the chamberlains yet.

andy, i have used blacks for several years and like them. I will be switching to chamberlains this year. i have some friends that use scotty's releases and they work a lot better than offshore releases. the offshore releases wear out after a year or so the scotty's don't.

OK the first time i ran downriggers i was cruising up the lake and i saw a pod of baitfish on my sounder. i turned the boat around and put the riggers to the depth of the baitfish. i went over the school and caught a fish within 60 second. ITS NOT THAT EZ.

don't put the boat in reverse while your riggers are down. thats ugly.

i don't believe the DEC has ever clipped the dorsal fin.

I really like my 8'6" dipsey rods. I run roller rods because i run wire. If i was going to set up power pro dipsey rods i would go with the 8'6" blue diamond dipsy rods. i run 8' leaders and land most of the fish we get to the boat.

We went to the same area today and did good on perch. pretty much non stop action, but most of the perch were 7 -8 inches and went back.

The ice is way south of the island and that is where we are hitting next.

I will be on Kellys Island that weekend. I hope the walleyes are around.

Northend of Cayuga Lake. The ice is solid at Union Springs.

There are a lot of plugs out there. J Plugs are good but don't get the lighted ones. Silver hordes are also good.

You can fish them any time of the year and they will catch fish. Most guys use them starting in August.

I think the Steelers secondary is going to hit Fitzgerald so hard he is going to get crocodile arms.

maybe i should move the eyes on my spoons to the back and the hooks to the front.

went out from the east side today. fished about 1 1/2 miles north of union springs by a green channel marker. the perch fishing was great. 2 of us fished for 3 hours and we kept 63 perch 8-10 inches. i was using a silver castmaster spoon with a 3inch dropper to a glow ratfinky. i could not fish 2 rods the fishing was that fast. i wished i could have fished longer but i don't have a shack and the wind got to me. there were 4 wheelers on the ice, the ice thickness was 8 inches.

i would say material color, bead color, action of fly and how full the fly is tied.

not listed is the new bottle bill, every plastic and glass drink container will have a .05 cent deposit on it. also the trout/salmon stamp.

I would like to decimate the laker population on cayuga so there would be more silver fish.

i think 3 rods should be allowed on the finger lakes. i can't understand why it is not legal now.
