  1. Well at least the weatherman was a little off this morning. A little bumpy but fishable. That's the good news, we struggled for three teenage kings. Temps are back down deep (80-100') depending on depth. Inside of 100' is all warm water. Lots of smaller marks on the bottom in 110-115', I'm guessing lakers, we were on our way in and didn't fish them.

  2. Schoolmaster, I saw you at the marina last night. Thanks for the deep water report. We stayed in a 160-170' both Friday night and this morning and did well. 7-10 Friday and 8-13 today. Good mix of mature kings (up to 28lb and steelhead up to 12 lbs). Anything green is working. Speed is critical, faster the better 2.4-2.75 down speed.

I was thinking about a deep water run tomorrow, but it seems about the same inside and takes a lot less gas.

  3. Fished both last night and this morning. Fished from Devils Nose to Braddocks from 55 feet to 250 feet. Bottom line is things have changed dramatically. Temps are way up (45-50 feet), the bait is gone and the fish seem to have gone with them. The other boats I heard seemed to be having a tough time of it as well. Lets hope that consistent in close action comes back. Anyone get out deeper the last few days?

  4. Scott, we actually only ran two rigger rods and one wire most of the morning. With only two of us and the wind it was hard to fight fish with a big set out. How far were you running your lures back? We were back 50-75 feet. One other thing was that all of our fish were on an east troll. I actually ran back to the nose a couple of time to start the troll again. I'm hoping to get out a night or two this week if I can find someone to go. My usual crew is on vacation or working.

  5. Great day for us. 9 for 15 in a little over 3 hours. Mostly teenage kings. Fished between the nose and the pump house in 100-115 fow. Anything green and orange crush were good 90-95 on the rigger and 240 on the wire. Managed a nice steelhead 13lbs 14 oz (currently 7th) just before the thunderstorms blew up. To bad the storms came up, it might have been a 20 plus fish day.

  6. Well Gator posted one of my better stories. One of his better ones involved a goose on Braddocks and a spinner bait. How he hit that goose in mid air with his cast I still don't know, because he sure can't hit them with a shotgun. Anyways his $ 5.00 spinner bait is probably somewhere in Canada.

Another great one that I saw was a guy at Selkirk Shores up by Pulaski. He was casting a huge cleo for kings out in the lake. Needless to say, he hooked his wife in the top of the skull on his backcast. The best part was when he double yanked it from the back "trying to get it off the tree". I think he ended up divorced right there.

  7. Tom,

Nothing against trainers, but it is a lot more rewarding to do the training yourself. I had very little experience when I started with my Britney years ago. She turned out great and I can't wait to training another pup in a few more years. I have friends who have used professional gun dog trainers with very mixed results, some very good, some very bad. The bottom line is it comes down to the time you spend with the dog. If you don't put a lot of time into the training you can't expect a good dog to come out of it.

I learned everything I needed from one video "The Complete Pointing Dog" by Harold Adams. I think I ordered the video from Cabela's, but it was quite a few years back. I still have mine if you don't have any luck finding it.

  8. We get our 24' Wellcraft with a hard top under with probably 5 feet of clearance. I never measured, but from water line to the top of the hard top has to be 9 feet. I'm guessing there is close to 14 feet of clearance.

Remember to take your rods out of the rocket launchers though. Speaking from experience.
