There's a state boat launch with parking at the south end on the EAST side. East Lake Road. If you're heading south, as you get toward the end of the lake, there's a little green placard that says "state boat launch 500 ft". Slow right down quickly and it's right there. Knock em dead.

Hey Hooked-Up....it's been a while. Check your private messages. And stay off the bay unless you're a member of the polar bear club.

First ice came early. I think this is a bit of an anomoly and not a trend. At least not enough to dispell the notion that first ice is usually hot. I did Honeoye on Friday morning. I had one Walleye iced at first light with 4 other good runs that I missed. One spit the bait when I got to the hole. 2 came off while bringing them in. One cut the line (might have been a pickeral or one of those oddball Honeoye pike I hear about). But all in all, I fished about three hours and had plenty of action in that time......by my standards anyways.

My favorite part of those pics is seeing them caught on such a modest boat/motor combo.

I'm glad you found that to be amusing but I will continue to assume responsibility for my personal safety and that of my family as it is my responsibility and mine alone. If you're okay with pulling up to the dock at 3 or 4 AM by yourself, walking out into the middle of an empty parking lot to get your vehicle, and bringing your trailer back to that secluded little area to pull your boat out then go ahead. As a younger man I was robbed at gunpoint and more recently witness to a violent gun robbery ending with 2 males running out the door with a Glad bag full of cartons of cigarettes and a convenience store clerk sitting on the floor against the wall in a pool of blood. Did I mention that was at the Citgo station in Brighton by the county office buildings at dusk with a patron (witness) right outside the door filling his car watching the whole thing go down through the window? Not exactly Clinton and North. My life's experiences have taught me that evil exists in our society and it strikes randomly and indiscriminintly. I do not feel belittled by your ridicule (as obviously that was your intent) because another thing I learned at the Citgo station is that when seconds count, the police are only minutes away. I feel sorry for your family should evil visit them and the only thing you're armed with are emoticons.

I fished the river at night frequently the last 3 or 4 years (not so much this year....yet) in my 16'er. I've got no reservations about that launch at night because I have my carry concealed license and I exercise that right when launching there because I'm usually putting in all by myself at 10PM and pulling out all by myself at around 4AM. I also park away from the launch out in the middle of the lot toward the access road under the parking lot lights to reduce possibility of a car break-in. There's nice eyes up there too....and some monster cats.

Glad you had a good night. I haven't been out much myself and when I did go earlier in the summer I was getting blanked beyond belief. This is my last week that I have the calendar flexibility and I plan to get out a couple nights so I'm glad you were able to put out a positive report. Bummer about the ticket. I've been out of that launch countless times....after dark and well after the fee collector has left his post....and never been ticketed. I'll keep going and if I DO get ticketed, I'll look at all the times I DIDN'T get ticketed and and DIDN'T pay the launch fee and call it a wash, and still....a wash in my favor.

2nd hand info.....worm harnesses trolled with drop weights.....dusk and dawn. I don't know the lake that well so I couldn't give specifics on location. Maybe this will get something started though.

I fish I-Bay for Walleye pretty regularly. I usually do pretty good to fair. This year has made for an unusually slow start for me. I haven't gotten out at all the last 3 weeks either except for Sunday night when I got a 21"er before lightning storms blew in. Weather doesn't look promising for this week but I'm so close to the launch that it's nothing for me to just hook up and drop in if it looks like there might be a couple hours of agreeable weather. So I'll be trying this week weather permitting.

Yeah....I'm probably inclined to jig for them. Something about trolling....sort of like dredging for fish.....that diminishes the enjoyment of the sport for me. Looks like Friday....weather permitting.

with a good weight jig....sure. But it would be kinda tough to get a crank or stick down 30-50 ft. Wondering about rapalas on bottom bouncers maybe??

I haven't been out for smallies off of Hedges in a number of years but I got a buddy coming into town and I thought I'd try to get him into some of the action that was so awesome before the goby infestation. I understand that live bait on the bottom becomes goby central but does anyone have any advice on the smallie action out there? Is it even happening this time of year? Thanks folks. I haven't been out in a few weeks but a few more days and I hope to be sharing stories of my nighttime Walleye excursions on I-Bay on a regular.

Not usually. That's what I do when I'm up the river for them. In the bay I fan cast the shoreline with big sticks or big shallow diving ShadRaps. I'll also work these outside the weeds and if no hits I'll switch to deep diving cranks keeping a close eye on my graph. If I'm marking fish that aren't taking the divers either then I'll throw a big minnow on a jig. There's really just two or three spots that I troll and they're rather short stretches. I'll make 1 or 2 passes keeping an eye on the sonar and decide whether or not to slow down and work it harder based on what I'm seeing.....or catching. Ideally, I catch a fish or two in my more successful spots and then I spend the rest of the time exploring. Looking for new structure and new spots. Trying to learn the bay as much as I can. I've only been fishing it for a few short years so I've still got quite a bit of exploring to do.

I've heard they do good on the eyes in the river near the town of Avon.

Still no eyes. I didn't anticipate getting any yesterday though because I was just taking an old friend fishing at a time that was convenient to him. I wasn't running any of my familiar programs or fishing during my peak times. Like I've said before, I usually don't even launch before 10PM. Fishing is going to be real infrequent for me until school lets out but once it does and I'm out regularly (if not nightly) and get the program established, I'll be just fine I'm sure.

I took a buddy out on the bay tonight. He's a rookie and not into the night thing so I figured I'd just move around and start exploring for a for a daytime Walleye bite. Got into a whole bunch of Silver Bass I think they were (or Silver Perch?). One very big Sheep's Head. Then as we were approaching dusk I decided to cover some water and troll some diving sticks and my buddy, rookie as he is, hooked into, and boated, a very healthy 35" Northern. (pictures coming....his cell phone camera with no adaptor). I couldn't believe it when he got it near the boat. I thought it was going to bust off for sure. No steel leader and he just didn't have experience playing a fish that size and that fights like a Northern. Had to cut out early but that was a very pleasant surprise. I'm not a northern fisherman but still....that's the largest Pike I've ever had in my boat.
