  1. I use a clip on line counter
  2. Your choices on reel sizes are good except i prefer 300 copper on a 55. If i had my pick i would choose the high speed Okumas all the way. It may not be as noticeable with short coppers but ts a big deal with the longer lengths. Its a lot less work. As for releases, I like Scotty planer board releases for all of my coppers. Long or short it holds them all http://scotty.com/product/no-1177-planer-board-release/). Okuma GLT or Okuma White Diamond copper rods both offer good choice for rod selection. Excessive braid backing may not be needed but it does make it easier to spool and quick work when you are spooling a bunch of reels.
  3. Agreed. If they aren't there then you can shoot them. This is where cameras are huge. We can all scout but cameras imo seem to be a much better way to take inventory of the deer around. Some bucks may be good at avoiding the cameras, so the right location is a must. I have a camera over a community scrape that i found by accident last year. Although not once did a buck visit that scrape while i was in the tree and only twice all season did a buck visit that scrape during daylight hours, it did show me what was around. I have one very hot camera in a spot that i found in the offseason and i have seen 2 different good bucks from that set already this year. One of those 2 bucks i have seen twice while the other just once. As a surprise to many all three sightings have been in the morning between 745-830. Im gonna try to be in that exact spot again tonight!
  4. Good luck to you and your family Guppy.

  10. So I put my new Scent Crusher tote to use yesterday for the first time. Very simple operation of the unit itself. 3 buttons. On/ off to turn the unit on/off, up to adjust the time up and down to adjust the time down. The unit automatically shuts off after the timed cycle ends. The scent crusher unit pumps ozone into the tote killing bacteria and/or scent. You must choose a run cycle between 5-30 minutes. It doesn't get much simpler then that for operation. My initial reaction is to the smell of ozone. It's a very unique smell. Not like anything familiar. Sent from my XT1585 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  21. I agreed 100 percent that a deer's sense of smell will win every time. All of my stands are wind specific and are avoided if the wind is not in my favor. I am very scent conscience. I only use scent free soaps and deodorant during the hunting season. I invested in scent blocker suits. I believe i am doing everything I should be and then some. My hopes are that if everything doesn't go as planned that scent crusher (along with everything else) will buy me more time at a chance to arrow big buck. 22. Sniff Test: Scent Control Products and Practices vs. a Drug Dog http://www.fieldandstream.com/articles/2014/07/sniff-test-scent-control-products-and-practices-vs-a-drug-dog A very good read on scent control vs a dogs nose. 4 individual tests total, done over the course of 6 years. Very intriguing results from the use of ozone products in test #4. I feel i am pretty good with scent control but its never enough. Its tough to beat a whitetails nose. I have been toying with the idea of purchasing a Scent Crusher unit (https://scentcrusher.com) and I pulled the trigger yesterday on the tote model. I spoke to a couple guys that have the Scent Crusher closet and although the products were still new to them they had only positive things to say. Personally, Ill take any advantage i can get! Ill obviously report on my findings with the Scent Crusher tote as the season progresses.
  23. So i did a little research on a buck I have on camera and here is his pics from the last three seasons. Buck in 2015 Buck in 2016 Buck in 2017 Very possible he is the brother of a 9pt buck I killed in 2015
  24. October 2 am clear skies 39 degrees light fog light SSE wind 3 mph with 9 mph gusts Lots of deer on their feet this morning but most of it before 745. 15 total deer seen including 7 bucks. (6 of those no doubt were different bucks not positive on the seventh). I had a 2.5 year old buck give me a heart attack at first light. By the time I saw him he was 15 yards and almost broadside. His decent rack had me in a panic as i reached for my bow and clipped on my release. It didn't take long to realize he wasn't the one but it sure made for an exciting 10 seconds. 5- 1 year old bucks, 1- 2 year old buck, and 1- 3 year old 10 pt that given the chase i would fling an arrow at. Saw some sparring, and even some premature chasing. 2 rub lines near the stand seam to be getting some attention.
