  12. This year's statewide Winter Classic Tournament is going to be awesome!! We are adding many new prizes to win and more weigh-in stations to bring fish in to!! This will be NY's largest tournament - only $25 to get in for 2 months of tournament fishing action!! www.NYSwinterclassic.com
  13. Usually not until November...
  14. Only 8 days left to get in on the Early Bird Registration and promo drawings!! Tons of HUGE news to come for the statewide Winter Classic Tournament - announcements coming in November!! This is looking to be a very sizable event this year!!
  15. Observers are actually pretty easy to coordinate - each team has to provide one to swap with another team. The swap is randomly done at a captains meeting the night before. We currently do it for all the major salmon/trout events on Lake Ontario (pro-am's, invitationals, OOO, etc.). And I agree, big money/stakes events need to have observers otherwise you open the event to teams holding fish (even if checked prior to shotgun start, they could have them staged on stringers), swapping fish with other teams/boats, etc. With observers you could also make it a no-communication event.
  16. If you want any info about the Frabill shelters, let me know - I'm pro-Staff for the company. There are pro's and con's to each type (flip-over vs. pop-up). A lot depends on your style of fishing.
  17. J-plugs and bright boards with flies (Rrred echip with Hypnotist fly) has been the trick for us this time of year. And no planer boards - you're asking for a lot of trouble if you run them!! We typically run 2 riggers/4 wires unless under 60 fow, then we run 2 riggers/2 wires/shoot line.
  18. The IPA Invitational Tournament invitations are hitting the mail this week to those who fished the event last year. If you did not fish the event and would like to get our waiting list, please PM me your name, team name, and contact phone number. If a prior team declines their spot, we will start sending invites to those on the waiting list on a first come first ask basis. For more information on the Invitational event, please visit the following website: http://www.nysiceproam.com/TeamInvitational.html
  19. You bet! It actually appears more reddish-orange than red, but very effective on staging kings! I'm not sure if it makes a difference what fly is run behind it, but we have had good luck with Atommik Hypnotist flies.
  20. It's called a Hot Tamale Stinger Echip, whole board is red with one large yellow prism eye on it. Got them at Screwy Louie's a couple years ago, pretty sure they still have them... although probably not for long after this post!! LOL!! Here is the board with our 26 lb'er from yesterday: The 28.14 LOC fish was also caught on this rig.
  21. They were checking boats somewhere towards Oswego yesterday too... in the harbor I can see when we're coming in or going out, but while fishing?? C'mon, seriously?? I hope you pass inspection Nick!!
  22. We've been fishing the Salmon River area and while we haven't lit the place on fire, we have generated double digit bites each trip and 3 LOC fish so far - had a real nice box yesterday (28.14 LOC, 26, 22, 18 lb kings and 8, 12 lb coho) going 6 for 10. Hitting it one more time tomorrow to see if we can boat a Tyee this year! When targeting staging kings we use predominantly Rrrred echips with Hypnotist flies as the red color agitates them and they hit out of aggression. Coho's love this rig too so we usually will pick up a few of those in the mix as a bonus, especially when run higher in the water column. Some other rigs that can often produce hits: Chaquita boards with Packer flies, white with green dots boards with ultra green glow flies early, J-plugs, and bright colored mag spoons (mixed veggies, anti-freeze, Hawg Wild). Just some food for thought...
